ED-II: is this school for me?

Hi. My name is Lainey and I was thinking of doing Early Decision II at W&L to up my chances at getting in (I didn't do the first ED round so there's no conflict with being bound to W&L). I was wondering if some current students/experienced applicants (no parents please) could tell me a) if it's a good idea to enter a binding commitment, b) if it does in fact increase your chances of getting in, and c) whether Washington & Lee is the right place for me given that:

-I come from this really WASP-y New England family (Southern Conn.) but I don't consider myself alllll that preppy (i.e. I'm much more likely to wear Abercrombie than Vineyard Vines, and I would never wear pearls on a day to day basis). I never even really considered myself to be preppy until my cousin said to me, "the fact that you don't know you're preppy... that's how you know you're preppy."
-I have a real problem with snobby girls... I need to hang out with people who have a good work ethic but are generally just chill about all the social stuff. That said, I'm not much into hanging with the artsy/loner types
-I'm cool with mainstream stuff (music, shows, etc) and get into it but I also have an independent mind and a good sense of what my own tastes are and I'm not afraid to be myself.
-I like to have close friends and relationships but I've been in schools my whole life where it's really small and everyone knows who's dating who, who's not speaking, etc. and you start to get sick of seeing the same faces everywhere (my graduating class is 70 people and that's big for our school). Is W&L like that?

Thanks for reading/answering... looking forward to hearing from you guys! =]

I really like W&L

I am applying ED to W & L as well but at the first deadline.

I applied early decision because there is a much better acceptance rate for early decision applicants than regular applicants. The acceptance rate for ED is 30% versus just 10% for regular decision.
If I were you, I would visit W&L before applying for ED if you have not already. I was unsure whether or not I would apply ED to W&L- I was leaning towards ED at Vanderbilt- but my visit got rid of any doubt on my part.

If you do not know of it already, ***** is a great website to read student reviews of colleges. http://www..com/washington_and_lee_university/reviews/

I never realized that College Confidential would censor the name of its rivals.

Any way, the name is U N I G O but without any spaces, of course.

Definitely what Gatsby said. I’m applying RD (stuck between three for ED and W&L was one of them…ugh…) but it was definitely my visit/interview that peaked my interest. One of the professors interviewed me (he also works in Admissions), and we had a great discussion-if that kind of discussion is what W&L professors promote, I’m sold. Obviously, not everyone can visit…but if you have the time/money to, it’s definitely worth it! The campus is beautiful and so are the people, I might say… ;)

Anyway, as Gatsby pointed out, U N I G O .com and College ******* can be very helpful websites if you want “insider information”…they have both been a really good help for my application process.
Hope this helps! Ultimately, if you feel Washington and Lee above EVERYTHING else, and you won’t have lingering feelings of “Well…what if I applied there too?”, then enter the EDII binding commitment. Don’t do it just to increase your chances if it’s the wrong school for you. W&L is AMAZING, but not for everyone.
