Does ED really help you have a better chance of admission? I've always thought that Pomona was my first choice school, but after my friend, who got into upenn, told me about the school, it sounded really good to me. I know I can't apply ED to upenn, but for Pomona there is an ED2. I didn't apply ED1 because I was going to need a lot of financial aid but now that I found out it's a need blind school, should I apply ED2? If I didn't, would it hurt my chances? I don't have a great gpa nor stellar sat scores. Upenn and Pomona are my first choices. Please help!

Last year, Pomona admitted 28% of its ED applicants vs 18% of RD applicants. Your choice how to interpret these numbers.

Even if Pomona is need blind, that's only in admissions. If financial aid is an issue, you should not apply ED to any school. You need to be able to compare financial aid packages to determine which school is best for you both in terms of fit and in terms of affordability. Since ED is binding, you won't be able to do that.

Applying ED if financial aid is an issue is extremely risky and inadvisable.

Pomona has limits on the self-help portion, so if you don't mind some work-study and a small loan, ED can be a viable option, especially if it's your first choice school.

and u can always back out if the financial aid package is too small such that you are UNABLE to attend , this includes liquidating current assets....yay ya ya..people say it's the school who decides whether it's enough..but guess wut...ED is not even a legal contract, it's just compliance by honor..if pomona gives u a ****ty pakage which doesnt allow you to be able to support yourself,..just ditch them

So should I apply ED? I wouldn't mind doing some work study or getting a loan, its just that now I'm not sure which school is my first choice, pomona or upenn.

Your choice.
