Hey I'm a female applying ED to Mellon College of Science, and everyone here seems to have these incredulous stats like
" 4.5/4 GPA
1/236987526304987 rank
800/800/800 SAT/SATII
President of the United States of America
Etc."

This got me down a bit... my stats are somewhat more human than that:
GPA : 3.55/4
SAT: 790M 760V 740W
SATII: 760 Bio 750 Chem
My school doesn't rank but I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 20% of my class

Lots of extracurricular activities such as volunteering
I did research this summer and published an article
I play piano for 15 years

But then again, compared to all these extracurricular/academic superheroes, I seem a bit dull.

Your SATs are better than mine, and I'm applying to CMU and MIT.
Personally, I think the admissions officers understand that not everybody has these crazy opportunities to do everything before they graduate high school.
You seem pretty competitive in my opinion, especially if you have a research project done. (I don't have that one on my list of activities...)

Post back here when you get your ED decision, I'd like to know how it went for you.
Right now, I'm praying that I got into MIT EA; I should see a letter (or preferably the acceptance tube with a poster in it, as other people have described on the MIT board) tomorrow.

you're more well rounded that i was when i applied here, and you're GPA is definitely higher. don't think that you dont have a good shot, those scores are high enough to get you noticed. have an amazing essay and id say you have a fair shot and getting here. esp. b/c you're a girl, its only 35% girls, so no worries, they're be extra careful when they see you're female, just because its mostly men and there trying to even that out. :)
