My GPA is somewhat low at a 3.2 but I have several other factors in my benefit.
ACT is a 33, President of two extracurriculars, DECA states.
I also attend a very rigorous private high school in the northeast. Did Emory precollege over the summer, professor wrote in class evaluation that it was evident much more effort was put into my classwork than most of my classmates, and that I should be well prepared for college level work. He also wrote a rec which I cant see, but is on file at admissions office. Considering all of this, what are my chances applying ED1?
Not good (If denied, deferred, or waitlisted, it will be your GPA that kills. Even if from a rigorous school, I’m thinking 3.4-3.5 is definitely expected), but you can try. You could be prepared for “college level” work, but that won’t necessarily convince Emory adcoms that you are prepared for Emory which is not necessarily the level of pre-college academics which are rather low stakes. Keep mind that an elite college wants to view itself as academically more rigorous than just any “college” rather true or not and take this approach in decision making. You would need support by things like good AP/IB or SAT II scores (or awards in academic areas) to show that you REALLY excel in particular subject areas.
