I have a 92 weighted GPA with 3 AP classes and the rest honors.
I play one varsity sport for 3 years now and planning to play another for senior year.
I have positions in 3 clubs that are big.
SAT was a 1970. M-700 CR-640 W-630
I have an internship with a medical center and volunteer with charities. I created a non profit and its getting popular.
I am going to ED and I want to know if I have a good chance?
@smaj310 There is a decent chance, but no promises. Any SAT II’s? and how did you do on the AP exams? Also, are you planning ED1 or 2. If ED2 and you are shooting for any higher ranked or more selective school (score-wise), then you’ll probably need to raise the SAT a little (closer to 1400/1600 may be more like it). Also, naturally the non-profit will likely be more important than the other 2. What are your academic interests?
How strong of a writer are you? You’ll need a strong essay to get in
Yes, that is true and the supplemental essay topics don’t appear as easy this year. Better be a good writer and a deep thinker.
What’s your GPA on the 4.0 scale and what’s your class rank (assuming your school does it)? Your ECs are good but you’ll improve your chances most significantly if you retake the SAT and get 2150+ or take the ACT and get 32+.
Emory isn’t that stats sensitive, especially for ED rounds…The person is in the IQR already. Since the EC’s are good, it may be less important that they improve the SAT vs. having solid AP scores, some SAT’s and perhaps better EC’s. However since the latter is fine and there isn’t much time to enhance it, the former 2 and strong essays are much more important. I feel like those with strong enough EC’s don’t need to be near the median. And they are likely to admit someone like this over someone near the median who writes lackluster essays because, again, it isn’t trying to quickly raise its SAT’s. The 1340/1600 is going to put this person in the IQR regardless, so it means they are competitive. 32+ and 2150 sounds more like RD or scholars. ED will probably be less intensive because they know the place is a top choice for the applicants. They want to use the smaller application volume to ensure that they choose the ones that will fit or contribute something solid. In RD, they are more likely to risk going after super high stats candidates simply because there are more applicants to choose from. I just don’t think this person is going to make the Emory adcoms go wild with a 2150+, those credentials, and “meh” essays. Maybe 2200…but not 2150. Better to just write epic essays and try to do well on an SAT II (if AP scores are not good) at this point.
