ED1 to ED2 to RD

My first choice school is NYU and will apply there ED1. IF f i am not accepted into NYU ed1, is it possible to apply to ED2 to my second choice(emory-oxford) and RD to different schools at the same time? If by chance i do get accepted ED2 to emory, can i just withdraw all my RD schools since the response deadline is later than ED2 repsonse deadline? OR is what i just stated violating the Early Decision agreement?

If you apply to and are accepted by NYU ED1, then you have to withdraw all other applications, and the only legitimate excuse not to go is if you cannot afford it. If you are accepted ED, you do not apply ED2 anywhere, and you do not apply RD anywhere. You have committed to that school, and you must go there.

But the question is if i dont get accepted into ED1 school can i apply to both ED2 and RD schools and later withdraw ed2 applications if i do get into ED2 school.

If you don’t get accepted, then yes, you may. You can apply to both, but if you get in ED2, you have to withdraw all of your RD applications.

I must have misread your initial question.

Thanks for the help :)

Also do you have to give reason why you are withdrawing if you do?

No, you just withdraw your application. You can explain if you choose, but you don’t have to.

Short answer to your question is that you can file ALL the RD applications at the same time as your first (or second) ED application, but as soon as you can an affordable ED offer of admission, then you have to withdraw all the RD app’s.

Not only are you allowed to apply to schools RD at the same time you apply ED2, you absolutely have to apply to because if you don’t get into your ED2 school, you’ve already missed the RD deadline to apply to other schools.
