I've been procrastinating like crazy after finishing my Columbia app. I haven't written any other new essays for other schools yet (only reworked my CU essays slightly for a few prompts that have worked) and have only half-heartedly poked at the Common App. Sigh.

I'm applying RD to Brown, Stanford (?), UC Berkeley, Pomona, Claremont-McKenna, Georgetown, Chicago, and a few state schools.

they're not going, and probably won't be unless necessary after the decisions come out.
props to you for actually doing something other than just waiting

I've finished my original seven schools
Columbia-ED
NYU-RD
Fordham-EA
Bard-EA
USC-RD
Howard-EA
American-RD

I'm still not sure if I want to add any more schools, especially another high reach like Brown or Cornell, but I am going to wait to see what happens with Columbia before I commit to any more schools.

I'm done... just waiting on some news from Columbia before I'll be motivated enough to finish the last couple supplements. The actual Common App stuff (essay, activity sheet, recommendations, etc.) are done.

Dartmouth (#2!)
NYU (Supplemental essay bonanza.)
Harvard (Done.)
Cornell (loves my school apparently. We always send at least a couple there every year. Supp. essay started.)
Princeton (Supp. essay is done, at the word-limiting stage.)
SUNY Geneseo (In-state tuition = good times for my parents. No supp.)
SU (Double-legacy, yaayyy. It's my safety... so if they reject me, I'm going to have issues. On the not-so-great side, my parents would probably make me live at home. Ew.)

I'm having issues getting motivated enough to do any real work. I have all the basic info filled in and the occaisional essay finished... but there are a few i just decided to apply to, so i have to get on that

yeah. going to apply RD to harvard, yale, brown, nyu, brandeis, boston u, norhteastern. already got into tulane EA. but haven't written any supp essays yet. especially the ones that ask "why do you want to go to this school." because i'd rather go to columbia.

yeah i am definitely having a hard time saying why i want to go to other schools when i've still got my heart set on columbia...maybe if i don't get in, that part will be a little easier :/

haha that was me about a week ago, don't worry about it.
i met with my college counselor and every time she suggested a school, my (inward) reaction was "but it's not columbia."

i really hope it doesn't come to having to write those "why our college" supps because i'm putting them off

I know---one of the reasons I'm not applying to certain colleges is just because their application is "why us" and I feel like "because Columbia rejected me" isn't a good enough reason...

hey it's a good enough reason for me.. but yeah it probably won't work for them.
this board is cool though, because there's other people in the exact same position.
I hope we can all celebrate together whenever the decisions are out!

i agree w/ everyone.. so you guys are just waiting then for the rest of them until you find out? because those deadlines mostly aren't till january anyways..

I've been working quite a bit on my other apps, since I'm expecting probably a deferral or maybe a rejection from Columbia, heh.

I've already sent out 7/12 of my other apps and am almost done 2 more. Ugh I hate colleges that want an extended "Why ___ Uni?" essay coughUPennCornellcough

someone needs to reform this system and just have us write three essays
1. talk about an experience that you had to go through which influenced you
2. talk about your intended major and future
3. additional information

with those three essays, we can apply to EVERY SINGLE COLLEGE IN THE US
wouldn't that be awesome?

im saying this cuz i still have 6 more college apps to START lol

While it would be nice to just write three essays and be DONE, I actually do enjoy writing essays for the rather off-beat essay topics, like Chicago's or Tufts' optional. I don't really mind writing all the essays, the one essay I can't STAND writing is the "Why ____ University?" one, especially because I have about a dozen of those to write. Though I guess I can understand why adcoms want that essay.

Duke University Admissions: Regular & Early Decision
"You should file the Duke Student Supplement (Form A) and a non-refundable application fee as soon as possible after the application is available to you, and no later than January 2 (or by December 10 to be eligible for an alumni interview)."

I don't know how I heard about this actually, not from the website, so possibly from one of the brochures?
I don't know about the other schools, you'd probably want to check each of their individual websites to make sure.
