So this is a bit of a pointless thread, but I just wanted to voice my frustrations over other applications. I'm in no mood to do them (don't know how you do it ilcapo!) and they annoy me.

Like, UVa, I thought they were just a big public school, more interested in numbers than essays. But they have all these weird questions. Granted they're pretty good questions, but they're not princeton questions, ergo, I can't just use a pton one to fulfill it. Major

And I am still at a loss for "Why Columbia"

I actually enjoyed filling out my RD apps, since it took the focus off my ED one (since all that was left was the darn wait), and also, writing the "why X college" essay reminds you of what you like about it, so that if you don't get in ED, you don't feel so bad. Although, if you can't really think of a good "why" then perhaps you shouldn't waste the app fee...I've done that for a few already.

I don't think I've gotten to that stage yet. All I can think about is Princeton and I kind of enjoy it that way. I don't want to think about other schools so even the fact that BC's supplement doesn't fit into the envelope they gave bothers me.

rats! Georgetown is the only school I'm applying to without visiting... and it's the school that has the longest "why us?" essay. They are mean.

i haven't visited any of the unis I'm applying to... but I'm going to visit Princeton if I am accepted. I'll schedule it so that I can meet with at least one you people! :P

Hey,is it okay to mention that u want to go that univ. for specific programs u liked there and the quality of research
I mean,do u have to be creative and stuff while writing these essays,or can u make it a serous, specific essay about what interested u at that univ.?

well not really, viewbooks are meant to give you a good impression about a university...
but I have a lot of friends who are currently at graduate schools so I have an impression!

well, i don't mean for an accurate perception - i agree with you, gr, that they aren't useful for that. but if you want to throw in things about specific programs in your "why somewhere-that's-not-pton" essay, then you can glean some good stuff from there - i know i used it to write a killer vandy essay (that essentially adopted my pton essay about the year abroad, ha...)

i find it rather enjoyable to fill out my RD apps - it gives me purpose in life! writing essays can be a drag, but sometimes it helps pass the time...

nevertheless, encountering an application with a lot of extra essays is rather depressing. i decided to add kenyon as a safety and possible merit scholarship option, and then i saw their supplement with a 1000 extra questions. haverford, which i love, has an annoying honor code essay that i wrote and then got shredded to pieces by the parents forum.

i think i'll try to submit one app a week for the next few weeks. i have 14 colleges im applyign to, and 8 or so are submitted.

I'm still trying to finalize my RD list. Those that I have finalized I've nearly completed the app (except the annoying Stanford and USC essays that are due within the next 2-3 weeks). Ack!

Cookieson only has eyes for Princeton, so he's not making much progress on other apps. Two of the other schools ask for an essay on how you dealt with a major disappointment or difficulty in your life. He stared at the computer screen for a while and then exclaimed, "I've never really had a major disappointment. How about I wait until Dec. 15 to write this? Then if I don't get in to Princeton I can write about how I dealt with getting rejected."

I'm sure Harvard would love to hear about how not getting into Princeton was the biggest disappointment of your life.

I'm a mess.... the farthest college I'm applying to is Vassar and thats only 130 miles away and I didn't visit. Princeton is like 25 miles away and I didn't visit, Swarthmore and Haverford about 30 miles and I didn't visit.....

I'll visit if I get in....

The only school I visited was my ED school Penn, of which I visitied twice.
