EDI Kenyon anyone?

i'm so nervous.. i've poured my heart into their app and somehow don't think that'll be enough..

i'm already planning my transfer to Kenyon...

whatever happens, good luck to all =]

Transferring is not very easy, hope you got admitted!

Yeah, I've heard transferring is quite a bit more difficult than admission in even a regular decision round. Transferring is something that I'd like to avoid in college, though. In three different countries, I've been to eight different schools... and I'm tired of being the "new kid!"

Letters will be mailed one week from today. Eeek!!

It scares me to think that the decision has probably already been made... and it's most likely on some list waiting to be printed onto some letter that will be placed either in a big envelope or a slim one.

I don't know if that's true, though. Does Kenyon go with the fat=acceptance, slim=rejection/defferal? I heard something about a tell-tale thumbs up on the envelope, though. I really am going to have to get a friend to open my letter. Ahh!

Hmm.... Does anyone know if Kenyon uses that same "thumbs up" acceptance envelope each year?

My heart's going to drop if it's just a slim envelope.. haha

Yeah, it's scary to imagine a group of people around a table talking about US...

5 more days! I'm so nervous! Good luck everyone...

I just sent my SAT II scores on dec 11th...actually I had asked on dec 1 whether it wud be helpful for me to send my SAT II scores...they replied on dec 4 by saying its not required so watever I wish....so I ignored the idea of sending those scores...but again on dec 8th I recieved another email from associate director in which he asked me to fax those scores since they were pretty high..he said that meanwhile he wud be using my email in which I had mentioned my scores as an addtional information to my app...

Duirng my app proccess, I have found Kenyon people to be really cooperative. I am happy to have applied to Kenyon as my 1st choice college...I will have no regrets even if they reject me outright.

Yeah, I agree with neo-nietzsche...Kenyon has been really helpful throughout this entire process. I live abroad and only had a short amount of time last fall (as a junior) to visit schools in the US. Kenyon let me interview with them and have been in contact over the past year to check up on me. Just one of the many wonders of Kenyon :)

I can't wait to get an email on Monday.....accepted or not....I just want to know!

okay, worst case scenario, a thin envelope sits on your kitchen table.. then what?

what other schools will you you apply to?

i'm thinkin' macalester, whitman, and grinnell for comparable lacs, and then tulane and u of illinois for universities.. any overlap?

Has anyone heard of Schrödinger's cat? It's a thought experiment that delves into the depths of metaphysics. Anyway, a cat is placed in a box where there is a 50/50 chance that poison will be released, killing the cat. As best explained by Wikipedia... "He proposed a scenario with a cat in a sealed box, where the cat's life or death was dependent on the state of a subatomic particle. According to Schrödinger, the Copenhagen interpretation implies that the cat remains both alive and dead until the box is opened."

This is sort of how I've started to think about college. It's Friday, letters are being sent out on Monday. Chances are that decisions about every applicant have been made. Now, like the cat in the box, the decisions are just letters in envelopes.

So until you actually open the envelope, whether it be thick or thin, console yourself that your are, according to dear old Schrödinger, both rejected from AND accepted to Kenyon College!

On a slightly less... confusing note, I agree that the admissions staff at Kenyon has been very helpful throughout the whole process. I have also had a good deal of correspondence with the XC/track coach, and I hope I don't have to send him an email sometime next week with bad news.

My regular decision list consists of (in no specific order)... William and Mary, Mary Washington, Oberlin, Wheaton MA, Colgate, and Dickinson.

Dun dun dun. Worst case scenario...I wind up at one of my other schools; Bryn Mawr (safety), Amherst, or Vassar.

I considered Grinnell for a while. But after speaking to to a teacher from Iowa, I realized that I really didn't want to be in the middle of no where Iowa. And runningincircles, nice list. My brother's a sophomore at W&M. He's a poli-sci guy and absolutely loving it there.

I didn't even think about having to email coaches to share bad news...ha. Way to add to my list of worries :P

I think I heard about Schrödinger's cat on an episode of The Big Bang Theory. It's certainly an interesting way to look at things...a winner and loser at the same time. Thanks for putting it into perspective ;)

Personally, I can't really wrap my head around the suggestion that the cat is both alive and dead, but the situation certainly lends itself well to college letters.

Oh, kbvalencia, just wondering-- is there anything that sets apart Middle-of-Nowhere, Ohio from Middle-of-Nowhere, Iowa? Haha :P

Kenyon has awesome Amish people :D

Plus Ohio is closer to my family.

More cornfields at Grinnell? Kenyon is set in a heavily wooded area. Also, I don't see how Tulane and UI are at all similar to Kenyon....maybe you could say Madison or something for the midwestern school...not so sure about the south.

As for me, I wil apply to Duke, Williams, Trinity U, Wesleyan, F&M and Gettysburg if rejected at KEnyon.
Amherst, Stanford, Smith, Brown and few other colleges have already mailed/emailed their decision. 2 of my friends were accepted at Amherst and Brown resp.
Thank God, I ll recieve email from Kenyon not the thin/fat envelope. At least, I wont have to panick over the size of the envelope!!

MolBioAce06, I applied to a wide range of schools 'cause I want every option on the table--there'll be no "I should have applied to that school..." when I'm done with this process =]

Does anyone know if Kenyon defers some ED applicants to the RD pool?

I believe they do. I almost wish we were just guaranteed a straight yes or no answer...

I'm starting to worry that the letters found their way into the mail early and that mine will arrive tomorrow or Tuesday.. and I wont be prepared! Confidence is at an all-time low right now. I'd say my chances for a big envelope are about 3%!
