EDII at George Washington University

I applied early decision II to George Washington. What are my chances for getting in?

I declared Political Science as my major.

I did an interview, took almost an hour and it went very well.

GPA - 3.54W, top public HS in state according to SAT and MCAS scores.
SAT - 1350/1600, 2020/2400. Took twice (best overall). 640CR, 710M,670W.
SAT 2 - Biology E - 660, Math Level 2 - 710

Senior Schedule - Political Science (General, 1st Sem.), H International Relations, AP Psychology, Accelerated Spanish 5, Accelerated English 4, Bioethics (General, 2nd Sem.), Sociology (General, 1st Sem.)

**I originally was taking AB Calculus, but I was doing terrible and needed to drop it. Not showing in transcript but I wrote it on my college applications, so I sent a letter to the schools saying that I am taking H International Relations instead of Calculus, because it is where my true interests lie, and it is the same level of difficulty (Honors level for Honors level)

Awards
-Presidential Volunteer Service award (10th, 11th)
-John and Abigail Adams Scholarship (12th)

**I put this Scholarship Award on all of my applications even though I am not applying to UMASS. Didn't really think that one through, guess it can't hurt me though.

ECs
-Camp Counselor 9th and 10th grade summers, Unpaid. This past summer I was paid. I am planning on returning next year.
-Peer tutoring in school in 10th grade. Out of school 9-12th grade.
-Peer leadership member at the highschool (talk to elementary school kids about drugs and alchohol).
-Volunteer at democratic campaign headquarters in Boston for Deval Patrick (Wrote on application that I did it weekly for about 2 hours a week for 8 weeks, but I ended up going 2 times, 4 hours a piece, + campaign locally...hopefully not a problem? Things changed since application)
-Community basketball in the winter since 9th.

Job
-Worked at a small grocery store 9/2004->5/2006 wih summers off for camp. 20 hours a week.
-Work at EMS since august. about 20 hours a week.

I also wrote a strong essay, and my teacher recommendation should be decent with a great counselor recommendation. My secondary essay for the school has quality content, but it is not amazingly written (pressed submit a little to early....).

Anyways, what are my chances? One of my friends got into GWU EDI with a slightly worse GPA, worse SAT and EC's. I hope I get in here....

Im just wondering, how much are interviews weighted towards getting in?

It shows your interest in the university...always good, unless you don't interview well.

You have a good shot.

alright. so the interviewers report of me should help getting me in.

i think ive done everything i can, now i just have to wait until early february.

ive already gotten into several safeties so the wait wont be too nerveracking.

Anyone else?

Also, just mentioning 1st term senior grades.
A in Political Science
B in International Relations H
A in AP Psychology
C+ :( in Spanish. Whatever, its Spanish, I hope colleges dont care.
B+ in English

Interviews Dont Matter That Much
I Mean They Do But 99% Of The Time Intervewers Say Good Things Aboutapplicants So It Cant Really Hurt You Unless Its Like A Hyp Or Mit..etc...
Also Are You Planning On Doing The Ba/jd At Gw?
I Did Interview With Gw And The Lady Told Me About It And A The Other Day I Recieved A Brochure For It In The Mail. Its Extremely Selective Though.
U Should Have A Pretty Good Chance.

Are you talking about the masters 5 year program thing? I did think about it, but I don't think that I would be able to get into that, and I would just assume try to get in undergrad for the 4 year program in political science (maybe add a double major of criminal justice or something) then hopefully go to grad/law school.

I also thought about applying to the Elliot School of International Affairs but I just think that Political Science is a major that allows for more options rather than the extremely specific majors of the Elliot School.

Bump one time

GW is a great school for political science. You also might want to look at the University of Maryland, Ohio State and Michigan which all have quality political science programs. Maybe NYU also? Michigan and NYU are both a bit of a stretch but you might as well try.

Ill look at NYU, I applied to UMD. I think NYU is a big reach though. Thanks for response.

Should I bother applying to NYU? I think they have a pretty good Political Science program and I kind of want to add another 1st/2nd tier school to my list.

So far, I have gotten into to UVM and UCONN. Applied EDII to GW. Waiting to hear back from BC, UMD College Park, Syracuse and Northeastern.

I don't really want to waste the money though if it is pointless. If I get rejected from GW would I have a chance at NYU? Im not sure what I should bother doing because of the ED blanket.

And if someone could reply to this I would appreciate it.

Bump, I want to find out if NYU is worth a shot

!!!!!!!!!!

NYU possible?

im in at northeastern, uconn and uvm already by the way. i just want to reach for a bit better of a school

......................................

NYU average SAT is 1331, average GPA is 3.63; so the school may be a little bit of a reach, but definitely worth a shot.

Also, regarding GW, did everyone get that Honors, Accelerated, and Special Programs brochure, or was it sent to select applicants (I got it, so hopefully, although I doubt it).

ya i got that in the mail as well.

well i might as well try nyu. i think nyu and gw are fairly similar.

are there any other schools like nyu/gw that i should look into?

bumpbumpbump
