Hi all, NYU is one of my top choices and I'm contemplating the option of ED2. However, I feel like I might also like to keep my options open (RD) and at the info session I was told that the ED and RD acceptance rates are very similar and that there is no statistical advantage. My stats are as follows:

3.5 GPA uw (strong upward trajectory, most challenging IB courses)
2250 SAT
790 SAT Literature; 750 SAT 2 Maths

Long-term ECs in basketball, community service (teaching), and entrepreneurship (leadership)
Recommendations: told by my counsellor they are very strong.
Essay received very positive feedback from Berkeley AO.
Financial aid not needed + international student.

If accepted, I would be thrilled to attend. However, if there is little advantage over RD then in that case I would like to have more options to choose from. Any thoughts?

I would go RD, you really have nothing to lose by keeping your options open. As you said, acceptance rates are very similar. The only difference is that less people apply ED because most people don’t want to commit. So, you have less people to be compared to in an ED pool than in an RD pool. That’s the only advantage I can think of and it’s not a big one. If keeping your options open is important then go for RD.

@sarrahhdaherr Thanks to both of you for your responses. Do you reckon my stats are strong enough (provided strong essay and recs) for a good chance in the RD round?

@sarrahhdaherr My transcript shows a strong upward trend throughout my four years, although I did struggle in Junior year. It’s quite clear from my transcript that my weak subjects are maths/sciences and my strengths are in humanities/arts. and my intended major is literature.

i was thinking about NYU ED2 if i didnt get in to my ED school, but the acceptance rate are both 34% so i guess there’s no point. I thought ED would be higher…
