Editing Common App after submitting it EA?

So I'm applying to Northeastern university EA via the common app. Once i have submitted on sunday, can i go back and change things in my common app later in nov. (i.e edit my essay to make it a little better, add more additional info, etc.). Or will the common app not let me do this? Please, im really worried about this. has anyone gone through the app process and know this?

Yes, you can do that; our household was doing the very thing this evening.

How do you edit?

You have to create a second version of your Common App and move the other schools from the first app to the second one. I don’t remember exactly how I did this but there are instructions that can be easily found online.

UT 84321…
Could you please elaborate as to how you did it?

^But if you make a new common app, then you would have to reinvite your teachers? So, when I submit the common app sunday, will it be final?

Wait, so if I have an typo in the common app I can fix it before I submit it to other schools?!?!?!?!

You start a new version. There is nothing that you can do about one already submitted, but you can make all the changes in a new version that you want. No need to re-invite teachers.

And we are allowed? I have a typo in my common app essay. I’m allowed to create an alternate version to fix it?

search for ‘versions’ in the help section of the common app site to get instructions how to create an alternate version.

Unfortunately, no. Whatever you already submitted you cannot fix or edit. You can however edit for future schools you apply to by creating the alternate version.

Woah. Thanks. I had no idea… I thought that constituted submitting a different essay to another college, and the essays must be the same.

Must the essays be the same?

^Awesome, you can make new versions with the same login name. And you don’t have to reinvite your teachers. Thanks everyone for the help.

Yes, ibro911 the essays must be the same unless there is an error. “Your Common Application essay should be the same for all colleges. Do not customize it in any way for individual colleges. Colleges that want customized essay responses will ask for them on a supplement form.”

^But if you submit an essay EA, and then can you revise it in an alternate version and submit to another college?

I have no idea - I wouldn’t. The essay is supposed to be the same for ALL common app colleges.

You can certainly fix typos and make other corrections in a new version. Not a problem. Colleges don’t want you to use the main essay as your ‘why this school’ submission so alternate versions that focus on different schools or special programs are not encouraged.
