How big of a "plus" is it to be Editor in Chief?
Equivalent of School President?

It's equivalent to President of a club. (I was EIC of a student newspaper for 2 years in college.)

I'm not sure I agree 100% - depends on what kind of club you're talking about. There are some clubs at our school that are really demanding of both time and commitment - being president of one of those might be comparable to being editor-in-chief. But there are some others that are MUCH less demanding - more of a social scene, that consist of one or two "leaders" and a group of their 10 or 12 closest friends. Hopefully admissions officers can tell the difference!

it obvisouly helps if you want to major in journalism

Being the president of something is obviously going to be beneficial, and counts definitely... but school organizations/clubs really aren't the kinds of things that will effect your admission by alot... unless you go beyond than just being leader.
