I am applying to Vassar ED I, and as of now I'm thinking that I'd like to double major in English and educational studies with the plan of becoming a high school English teacher. I've heard great reviews of the College's English department, but I've hardly heard anything about the education department. Would any current student, parent, or alum be willing and able to share some information on the programme? Not really looking for any specific information, just some observations or comments you may have... Thanks in advance. :)

I was once interested in being a high school teacher and did that dream backfire! Honestly, to be a high school teacher, you do NOT need a degree in education. In fact, every teacher I have ever had has only gotten an advanced degree in education to get 1) more pay or 2) get a job as an administrator. If you were teaching young children, a degree in education is pivotal; however, you could get by with just majoring in English at Vassy.

@Burche Thanks for you input, but I do want to majorn in education as well as education theory and reform has always been a topic that has interested me - even if I didn’t major in it, I’d probably take enough credits from their department to major in it anyway plus, I’m aiming to get New York certification, so it would help to have the guidance of an advisor within the department.
