Efc=0 and i was kept out? Is that the reason?

I filed my FAFSA and the EFC is 0, now I am rejected by U of Washington, my stats aren't so bad, SATI 1920. Do the EFC really affect the admission like that? Should I change it higher to get better admissions? I think even I really cannot get the help I need, somehow money can be made, just don't stop me because of it. I'd be very appreciated if someone who REALLY KNOWS can tell me the truth of FAFSA and its EFC.

If UW required an essay, and it read anything like that paragraph, rejection had nothing to do with EFC.

Sorry then…I just cannot believe it…

U of Washington is not need blind so if your application was borderline and/or submiited near the deadline then it is very possible your denial was affected by your 0 EFC.

You can’t change your EFC.

Iron Maiden

Thanks, I just checked the UW website, and apparently the word “need blind” doesn’t exist there.

Exactly. Unless the school specifies they are need blind then it is not. Do a Google search U Washington Need Blind and you will find plenty of information.

Hopefully you applied to other schools that are inexpensive. Move on from UW. Nothing you can do and they are known for not giving good aid packages.

Many/most publics are need-blind. Are you OOS?

Need-blind just means that they’ll admit you regardless of need. Most publics will do that. However, most publics don’t meet need. Therefore, they’ll admit you, but either gap you or put big loans in their packages.

Schools that are “need aware” are generally schools that give a decent amount of aid, therefore they have to be careful not to admit too many students who need aid.

You could always call and see if the will accept an appeal. Bottom line is they will either say “no” that they won’t go back and review your file or yes they will be willing to review your file. But, and only you can answer this, if you do not get much more than available federal ad and a Stafford loan can you afford to attend? Zero EFC does not mean that the school will give grants and scholarships to meet your need.

Yes, I have other schools and I am OOS, I was just thinking if all other schools rejected me because of the financial need…
Btw I just got the letter that I was wait listed by Emory, guess I have to wait the news from Oxford C.

Thank you all.

As a public school, it may have little or nothing to do with your EFC. They may be experiencing a surge in applications, as many state schools are. But, with a 0 EFC, do you know how you’re going to pay for college? UW seems to be about $35K for OOS, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise!

No, base off my observations you rarely will come across a school that have rejected a student due to their efc. I have read numerous threads of students with efc 0 who have got accepted the only downfall was the school not meeting their need… meaning efc is rarely a factor in admission.

Well, since you are OOS and this was a public U, it probably wouldn’t have made any difference if you had been accepted. OOS publics don’t usually meet need or even come close. They charge OOS fees for a reason. If they covered their OOS fees with FA, what would be the point of charging OOS fees?

After a struggle here…I think maybe I should go to Rutgers(I’m from NJ) and meanwhile waiting for Oxford C, look on the bright side, I can get high GPA in Rutgers.

Thank you all fofr answering~~
