EFC=41,000.... Can I expect any money?

I was just wondering whether NYU can offer me a financial package if I plan to attend CAS. I want to get the cost down to 35K-40K a year, because that is the amount my parents (I'm so lucky for parents willing to invest so much into my education) are willing to pay, but I absolutely can not pay the ticket price of around 60K.

I have very good stats
35 ACT
4.0 GPA
Class rank of 1/400+
13 APs, Will Test on 8, Have tested on 5, 2 5s and 3 4s
800 Math 2 SAT, 770 Bio M
A lot of clubs, and leaders in 3
Some state awards
Good recs
Lot of Medical Related Activities (which is what I listed on my common app)

So, is it realistic to think that I can actually bring the price down to my ideal range of around 35K. I am applying to many other outside scholarships to help pay also.

I also understand that IVY leagues (if I can get in), especially Harvard and Yale, can give me a much better deal than NYU, but NYU has always been my top choice.

It depends on how much they want you to attend. Figure that NYU’s total cost is in the vicinity of $65K. So with an EFC of about $41K, they could give you financial aid of up to $25K a year. But that is not the case of most students, and it is more likely that they will give you less money. On average, NYU meets about 73% of need…so in your case that would be about $18K or so. And that # may include in it student loans of about 6 or 7K and work study. So real money given as financial aid may likely be in the $ 8 -10K a year range.

It all depends on how much NYU wants you like uskoolfish said. With your stats, I’ll say that they would want you pretty bad.
