How accurate is the EFC calculator on the NYU website? I am the only child living at home and my parents' income range is $60,000-$69,000. The calculator said that we would have to pay $40,000 a year. Please tell me this is a joke.

Unforunately, that’s definitely possible.
NYU is terrible with financial aid. You may be able to appeal it after receiving your official financial aid estimate letter though.
I highly recommend you take a look at this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/new-york-university/1117221-parents-students-concerned-financial-aid-please-read.html

That’s a shame. I did the calculator too, I have three older sisters two of whom attend college, and my family’s income is between $40,000 - $50,000, I’d still be paying like $30,000 based on their calculations. (I’m still just a junior right now fyi so I haven’t applied or anything yet).

So, uh… work-study anyone?

^
I’m in the same position. It sucks. Plus, my parents are divorced which really adds to the financial strain.
