Effective Ways to Improve My Score?

Hi,

I'm an incoming senior and I have taken the SAT twice so far; I have taken the test in March and June of the most recent school year.

When I first took the test in March I received a 1680
CR: 530
Math: 590
Writing: 560 E: 11

I did no prep whatsoever and so I vowed to do some prep and take it again in June

I ended up not doing any prep and then I knew I had to take it again because I didn't have much time

I then scored an 1880
CR: 590
Math: 710
Writing: 580 E: 10

My goal score is a 2100 and I want to know what would be the most effective ways for me to improve my score in time for the October test.

Please and Thank You :)

Anyone got any strategies?

It is not so much strategy as it is practice. Be sure to buy yourself the blue book if you haven’t already. It is relatively cheap and you can really pick it up at any book store. A 2100 basically means you have a 700 in each or something in that region. You seem to have math down fine.

What I would recommend is work on writing and critical reading mostly. Practice math every now and then. Be sure to check your answers throughly. You should be able to get math up 40 points in less than 2 weeks time.

For the Writing section, you should try out Silverturtle’s guide on writing. He does a VERY VERY VERY good job on it. After tackling his Writing section, be sure to take a practice test in the blue book only for the writing sections. Correct it and learn from your mistakes.

For Critical Reading, if you aren’t doing so great on the sentence completions, study up some vocab. I would recommend Direct Hits since it seems to get the best reviews. They include their Hit Parade and a bunch of other good words which can help on that section. If you aren’t doing great on the passage-based reading, practice practice practice the Critical Reading sections.

Other than that you should be fine with improving 200-ish points in 2-3 months time. If you want a 2100 on the dot, try to aim for a 750 in math, 650 in CR, and 700 in Writing. They don’t have to be exact but anything really works.
