effects of USAMO qualification

How much does being a USAMO qualifier help your application? What would its benefits be on a scale of 1-10? Also, is it common for people to put their USAMO index on their application? For example: if the USAMO index for 2006 is 220, and someone gets a USAMO index of 210 and doesn't make it, but is very close - is it beneficial to mention that on your app?

Thanks

USAMO is only a big deal at the big colleges, because they are the only ones who know what the heck USAMO is. I think MIT actually asks for AMC/AIME scores. I'm pretty sure the West Coast and the Northeastern schools will know what you are talking about if you mention it. At any other school, I would attach a short explanation of what AMC/AIME/USAMO actually is. You might want to mention something like that in your essays, too. For more info on that kind of stuff, check out the College forum at www.artofproblemsolving.com

I'm actually wondering a similar question, what is the difference if the index is a 228 and you have a 226?
