S (Pratt freshman) just IM'ed that he wants ot drop EGR10 and, what do I think. I'm flattered that he asked!

His reasons: he's swamped with other classes, egr10 (P/F) won't impact his gpa one way or another, and he can go anyway when they are discussing something interesting.

My (uneducated) thought: he probably won't go if he's not enrolled, if he's that swamped,

How important/useful is this class? And, no, he doesn't know what kind of engineering he will pursue. Is this just a case of feeling overwhelmed by a heavy and less-than-optimal schedule, or is this a reasonable way to go?

I think it's reasonable, the class is made for people like him, but then again, I was undecided and I don't really think it helped. A more helpful route to deciding would be to talk to upperclassmen of all the majors to see if their interests and goals align with his.

He can easily drop, then just check out the schedule and show up to the ones he thinks are interesting while maintaining a more flexible Thursday afternoon. It is certainly useful in terms of getting perspective and several different fields of engineering, but again, can be done on a drop-in basis versus enrolled. Hope that helps!
