I'm in the ELC program, which grants me automatic admission into UCD, UCSB(?), UCI, and UCR, and maybe others. Anyway, if these schools are in ELC, do you still need to submit the normal application with essays to be accepted?

Of course you still need to apply. If you don’t apply, why would they give you a place in their school when you don’t seem interested?

Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Yes; is it a normal application with essays, or are essays not needed, or is it simply the common application for elc?

I wasn’t aware that there was an ELC application, as my school hasn’t said much about it, but if there is, it would be ELC application along with the UC application. The common application isn’t used for UCs.

ELC isn’t necessarily guaranteed admission into any UC you want though, and these days, it’s probably not going to guarantee even UCSB. It’s just guaranteed admission into A UC…but possibly UC Riverside or UC Mercedi.

In years past, ELC and ELC reviewed students got something in the mail, with an ID number, and some information completed.

Ohh. Thanks for the information, Shrinkrap!

[University of California - Local path](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/california-residents/local-path/index.html)

Yes you will get something in the mail. I believe it only guarantees you will be admitted to at least 1 of the UCs…not necessarily the one you desire. Depends on your scores and what they are looking for. Some of the UCs do automatic admits but it can change each year.

Even if you are automatically admitted, you may not be admitted in the major you desire. And you will still have to submit the application (they don’t do Common App) but it’s 1 app for all of the UCs…and you have to pay the fee for each UC you want to apply to (might be a fee waiver, can’t remember).

Yes, I think it guarantees all or most except UCLA, UCB, and UCSD.

Yes, you still have to apply to the UCs this November, 2011; however, in your letter, you should have a special login ELC code number. When the UC application asks if you are ELC, then put that code number down. There, they should have all your basic info.

Hope that helps,
