k so i've gotten into uci, ucd, and ucr on elc's already, and my friend told me she got in to ucsd with elc too... i was really surprised b/c it's pretty competitive!
idk if it's true or not!

also... what kinds of descriptions of my "world" should i put in my personal statement? i already wrote one but my parents kinda shot it down and now want me to stuff it with everything i've accomplished, ever, and i'm not sure how i'm gonna weave it in!

I can't find if UCSD is under ELC or not but I'd highly doubt it because, like you said, it is a very competitive school now. Perhaps you misheard or she misread and was actually accepted ELC to UCSC.

For your essay, I'm not an expert but I've heard that you don't want to put too many of your accomplishments in your essays otherwise you might come off as obnoxious/boastful. If your essay is directly related to how you achieved one of your accomplishments, of course that is fine, just don't try and pack your essay with your entire EC resume. That's what the EC part of the app is for. Remember, "world" can be defined as anything. It could be your bedroom, your school, your job, your car, anything.

Last year, my friend got ELC and got multiple invitations to apply to UCSD, which is sort of like a guarantee in. (These weren't regular college spam mail invitations.)

dlia13, are you an exact twin of me? I just got my UCD UCI AND UCR ELC letters, and one of my friends said she got a UCSD ELC letter, but i was like yeah right, because she said she didnt even open the envelope and threw it away before she read it...

I got UCD, UCI, and UCR letters. I also got a UCSD letter which didn't state I've been accepted, but encourages me to apply under ELC. :) And yeah, UCSD accepted around ~90% of ELC students last year.

yeah. i also got accepted to all the mentioned schools through ELC. UCD, UCI but i didn't get a letter from UCR.
i also got a letter from UCSD encouraging me to apply with ELC status but no guarantee. I think some of your friends might have misinterpreted that "invitation to apply letter" as ELC guaranteed acceptance. i'm not sure though. but i know that my counselor said that UCLA, UCB and UCSD is not part of the program.
