So i found out today that i didnt get the ELC (eligibility in local context) thing even though im in the top 4% of my high school class. anyway, how does ELC help you? does not having it hurt your chances?

oydpjhklgffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

if youre a non-elc then is it as hard to get into a UC as it is for an out of stater?

nope nope nope...an out-of-state applicant has a really bad chance of getting into a Uc.unless they're strong in everything..not having ELC shouldn't hurt your chances that much. UCs look at your grades, SAT, EC's and essays

the UC's re-calculate your GPA according to their standards and rules, which you can access on their websites. Apparently you're not in the top 4% according to them, but that does not mean you won't get in. The only thing ELC does is guarantee you a spot at one of the UC's, most likely a lower one.

ELC basically saids that you fit the middle & lower tier UC's as a prospective applicant.

Don't stop! Continue working hard !!

ahh ok, well how do my stats look for UCLA/UCB/UCSD/UCI/UCSB, considering im NON-ELC.

UC GPA: 4.5
SAT 1: 640w710v740m
ACT: 32c: 32e32r33m32s
IB Diploma Cand
EC
Dance since 3rd grade, JV/Varsity Tennis (9-12), VP of CSF, MUN, Mock Trial, Multicultural, volunteering (160hours), job shadowing at doctors
emplyoment
writer/photographer for a local newspaper

oh and rank...top 2.4%ish

how can you be 2.4% if you're not 4%?

Are you sure your UC gpa is 4.5 and you are not top 4%? Or is that 4.5 your school's weighted gpa?

well i asked my counselor today and she said that no matter what your ranking, IB Diploma candidates at my school do not get ELC. ELC at my school is the top 4% of NON-IB students. Weird. and annoying,

that's strange...at my school ib candidates do get ELC...if they're top 4%..they're geniuses..so competitve..

lucky you. my school sucks. anyway, what are my chances, non-elc:
UC GPA: 4.5
SAT 1: 640w710v740m
ACT: 32c: 32e32r33m32s

are you sure 4.5 is a UC GPA? on the web site the max UC GPA you can get is a 4.4 no? I think your school probably counted 1 non UC approve a-g course that you took as an academic course.

assuming 4.5 is a UC GPA .......

Berkeley/UCLA: Slight Reach (avg writing score is like 700)
UCSD/UCI/UCSB/UCD: Match
UCR/UCSC: Safety
UCM: Super Safety

Dear Extremfob,
My son just missed ELC 2 yrs ago, he was in top 5%. He was accepted into some UC's that a few of his ELC classmates did not. If you were submitted, the UC's did give a password or something that brought up your application with lots of info already in.

Good luck, I am sure you will do well.

thanks lamom. also, mrxalleycat, if i submit my ACT along with my SAT will UCB/UCLA still be reaches?
