How is the EE program at UCSD? I read somewhere it was a top 15 program in the nation and that many students get multiple job offers upon graduation. Is this correct? Any information on the program would be greatly appreciated.

Um… I don’t know.

Do you have any other, more specific questions?

I have friends in it and they say it sucks and is really disorganized.

I hope you are not seriously saying that. It could make or break someone’s decision to apply.

ECE at UCSD is ranked 17th in the nation, UCLA is ranked 16th. Berkeley could be higher.

All other UC’s are lower…so ranked 17th… being disorganized? Not really sure about that, I have a friend who’s a double major (physics and ece) who’s going to be able to graduate in 4 years + 1 quarter (which takes quite a bit of organization and time management)

Thus said, your schedule is what you make of it, so if deacon’s friends say it’s disorganized it’s probably because their schedule wasn’t tailored quite correctly a smooth pathway

I’m a CE major myself, so I have to take a fair amount of EE classes and go through their department. As for the job offers, it (obviously) depends on how well you do, but I’m sure there should be no problem getting an offer as long as you keep up the gpa. If you’re expecting a major where you can put in no effort, do mediocre, and get job offers, then this isn’t it. Be warned though, at least for me, it is quite a bit of work since I’m one of those types who has to go through the material a few times before I get it.

As for the department themselves, they are quite disorganized, and (warning: biased opinion alert) quite useless. I’ve had to email them several times to get them to waive pre-reqs that aren’t required for my major, and continue having to do so every quarter. I’d say the worse was when a certain someone form the department (who i won’t name here) sent MANY emails about a new pre req class that was being added, and then a year later sent an email basically saying “Stop emailing me about this new pre req you speak of, it doesn’t exist”…even though he was the one who informed all of us of it.

So in summary:
- It’s a hard major, but work at it and you shouldn’t have a problem getting jobs. However, I have heard that a grad degree is very helpful and perhaps even required to get a job.
- The ece department itself (professor’s not included in this, they’ve been quite helpful and are readily accessible when i’ve needed help) are incompetent.

Hey I’m just saying what I’ve heard. EVERY EE, Engineering Physics, or CE major I’ve talked to has not had anything good to say about the department. prdonut2k7’s comments about it are as good as they get.
