Does anyone know whether we should list merit scholarship offers from specific colleges under the “Awards Disclosure” section of the Semi-Finalist application?
Posting this for any future Virginia state finalists. I did not progress to Nationals, but as a state finalist I just received a letter from Elks Virginia with a $1000 scholarship! I know some states do / don’t offer their own awards, so just thought I would post for anyone asking about Virginia awards in the future. Good luck to all of you that made it to Nationals!
Can you make it to nationals but also get a state-lodge scholarship? Thanks!
@Muama4 - I think it depends on the state. I believe some who advanced to nationals also received a state award while others did not. Where I live, the state awards go to those who did not advance to nationals.
We should find out who the 20 finalists are this week. Please post if you receive a notification!
I was checking my ISTS homepage… my application for the national finalists is listed as “started” even though I am sure I hit submit and that it turned into a green submitted icon… Does this mean that my application was not submitted??
It should say “Complete.” Maybe your recommender didn’t submit their recommendation by the deadline. Click on “Started” and see what it says.
I just checked mine too and mine does show a green “Complete”. I’m sorry…yours may not have been submitted on time…
@Czechman Sorry for the late reply. From what I remember, all but two or three of the top twenty had been accepted to a top-tier university. I was only waitlisted to Harvard and Hopkins, but I didn’t get into them.
I got a 1470 on the SAT and had a 4.3 GPA overall. I was student body president, played four years on the varsity tennis team, and graduated as my high school’s valedictorian.I went to a pretty small school though. (It was small enough that it didn’t offer any AP classes, so I branched out to my local community college and took enough credit hours for an associate’s degree before I graduated from high school.) I think my essay, letters of recommendation, and my overall resume helped me.
There was at least one girl who scored a perfect 36 on the ACT.

Where? @hopefulfromAZ
@HopefulFromAZ - What kind of notification did you receive? An email or something in the portal? Also, what was the notification?
We haven’t received an email or any notification in the portal.
Nothing yet in either email or portal
received an email stating that I had advanced to Leadership Weekend!
Congrats! That’s amazing! Thanks for letting us know!
I haven’t received anything either. I don’t know if that’s a good sign or a bad sign.
did they only let the winners know?
Last year’s thread indicates that all the winners were notified on the same night and then those rejected received an email several days later. I have no idea whether it’s the same this year, but I am guessing it probably is. It is also possible that if some people decline attending the Leadership Weekend that other spots open up. This may be the reason for the delay between invites and rejections. My D has not received an email either.
