Elks MVS Scholarship 2009-10

Anyone heard from Georgia?
I’ll probably just call up the district head…

Hey bigbdawg…we’re in GA, too, and haven’t heard anything. Did you hear from any level prior to the national? We have not.

Im in New York… and I havent heard back. SO, i think for me, it might be safe to say I didnt get any national Scholarships.

Hey guys! While I don’t think I made it to nationals at this point, I did receive a big surprise today. Came home to find that the Elks had sent me a letter saying I had won a $1,200 scholarship for next year. This is a great ending to a pretty terrible week.

Congrats giftedgothic! That’s great news… Best of luck with all your other applications!

@ayeeeconnie: Congrats! I’m in for CA, also. What general area are you from. I’m from Riverside County. Anyone know how many kids CA sends?

My daughter was notified about one month ago that she is a National Finalist (elks). THey asked for an additional essay and our taxes and CCS.

I do believe she has won at least the 4,000.00. They are supposed to notify by the winners by April 1

Wow. I wish my son had found this website before today. I have a dilemma. We found out yesterday from the U.S. Post Office that 50% of our mail is not being delivered for the past year. My son has heard sporadically by mail from just 2 scholarships (applied to several)—one was Elks MVS as the District and Regional winner in Texas and they would keep him notified by mail but we never heard again and Elks said in the letter that the next round of credentials was due at beginning of March. I guess he has missed it. Should he contact by mail the scholarships in question? What kind of response would that generate as he is probably missing deadlines? Strange situation. He has heard back from scholarships onlilne only. For example, he is a Coca-Cola Scholar finalist, Wendy’s Heisman State Winner, Prudential state finalist. Semi-finalist with SAMMY. Also Walmart, Best Buy and Lowe’s all notified him as provisional finalist based on receipt of transcripts, etc. But, that’s e-mail notifications and nothing comes by U.S. mail. We aren’t getting snail mail. So, what does he do? Tried calling the Elks Lodge to ask but it didn’t get anywhere with that. The U.S.P.O. is trying to correct their problem but it’s been going on for over one year. The post office is so reliable but not in our situation.

maverick, first of all sorry to hear about this situation, and also congrats to your son for all he’s accomplished. Did your son ever hear about the state level from the Elks? The state committee chose those who advanced to the national level, which is where the MVS money is. He may want to call the national committee and see if he’s on there list. However, the Elks notified their national winners by e-mail, so if he did not receive that back in early february, then he didn’t receive it.

As for the others, I would suggest emailing them all, alerting them to the situation, and asking them to keep correspondence by e-mail when possible, and ask if they’ve sent anything by regular mail yet.

Almost all of my scholarship contact so far has been by e-mail, or at times both snail and e-mail. Later, though, it seems like they like to send official mail to the winners, and they’ll need to send checks too.

Maybe set up a PO Box for these mailings?

Best of luck!

I know my application was passed on to national status. Does anyone know when we will hear the amount of the scholarship we have won?

^We’re supposed to hear this Thursday, the first. Pretty much everyone (482/500) gets $4000, which is what I’m assuming I’ll get, and is great!

they’re starting to call . . . I got one of the larger scholarships and received a call today.

Congrats, skifreak, and thanks for letting us know…

They are posted on the Elks website right now.

Ryan- Can you post the link. I can’t find the MVS 2010 students anywhere.

Found the list. My D won 4,000…1,000 per yr. We’ll take it!

Here it is for everyone else:
