Hey! My name is Emily Cobb and I live in Bucks County PA and I’m super interested in auditioning for Elon’s for Musical Theatre program. I have one concern though, my SAT scores aren’t as high as I would like them to be. Being a musical theatre major, would that impact my chances of getting into the school? Or will they ignore it if they want me for the program? I know some schools are really strict about that and others are more lenient. Just wondering if I should travel for the audition or not. Thanks!

Elon now has a prescreen so you would upload video of your audition pieces and wait to be called back for a live audition. The prescreen is new this year, so I’m not sure if you must be academically accepted to the school first before being considered to audition. Do check their website. Overall, however, for most MT programs it’s mainly about the audition.

My son submitted a prescreen to Elon for the Fall Audition dates. The first round prescreen was due by September 15 and “invitations to audition” are supposed to go out tomorrow, October 1. You do not have to apply to Elon prior to submitting (or finding out if you passed) the prescreen. They do have high academic standards and when we toured the school, the admissions officer made it clear that you have to meet the Academic criteria in order to be accepted in any program. You still have time to retake the SAT’s and work on your academics. But in the meantime, you should work on your prescreen submissions and get those sent in to see if they will invite you to audition. Once you pass the prescreen you can work on your application - it just has to be submitted by application deadline. The prescreen is really the first step if you are interested in MT at Elon.
