Elon Early Action Class of 2017

Accepted with Presidential scholarship. From Northern Virginia

13all94 ugh. . . . :frowning: so sorry.

Definitely let your admissions counselor know that Elon is your dream school, and ask what you can do – write a different essay? improve your grades? See what they say, they may have some good advice for you, and they will know that you REALLY want to be there. It looks like they’re going to look at your application again for RD, so see if there’s something you can improve and resubmit.

Good luck, and hang in there.

Were the essay scholarships awarded already?

13all94-I’m with you. We were quite surprised when D was deferred. We need to send 1st semester grades. They suggested taking tests again, but she took the SAT 3x (1760 superscore) and took the ACT 2x (28 superscore, she went down to 27 the 2nd time, thanks to that horrific science portion, did great on that the first time). Great GPA, ranked 9/128. So when classes resume next month and the semester is over at he end of January, her GC will send the grades.

Lets keep our hopes up and good things to come in March!

Hi all –
Congratulations to the accepted students; deferred students, hang in there and follow the good advice to stay in touch with your admissions counselor and highlight any improvements in your profile since you applied. If you were motivated enough to apply EA, I bet the odds are good that you will stack up really well against the RD applicants, so you definitely are still in the game.

I’m happy to say that my son was accepted, and awarded an Elon Engagement Scholarship, so we’re very excited!

chelssd32 - when you ask about the essay scholarships, I think you mean the Engagement Scholarship, so yes, if my son is a good example, they were awarded at the same time as offering admission, just like the Presidential Scholarship.

stbemptynest – We are midwesterners, and I’m about to be an empty nester, too. Glad to see Elon’s reputation moving across the country!

chelssd32 - if you are talking about the Fellows scholarships, then no, those haven’t been awarded yet. The application deadline is Jan. 10.

Even though D was deferred, she’s still going to complete the Fellows application. You never know…

MomTheChauffer, it can only help! Maybe it could also be used as new information that would be considered for admissions. Wishing lots of luck (and patience)!!

Accepted with the Engagement Scholarship (essay)! First choice…

Congratulations on the acceptances!

And for the deferred - I have seen a number of students turn deferrals into acceptances. Send mid-year grades - and let the regional rep know how high Elon is on your list. They always have a number of acceptances that go to students who are really using Elon as a safety school - so many spots will open up - don’t be discouraged!

Accepted with presidential scholarship!!

Congratulations on everyone’s acceptances!

Stbemptynest, I sent you a message, but I don’t think it went through because I don’t have 15 posts. I am at 9 now, hopefully will get there soon so I can respond! :)

The 15 post requirement is so silly…

Just wanted to add about the phone calls…when D was accepted 4 years ago, she did not receive a call. My S did receive one yesterday with his good news. His friend also received a phone call…letting him know he was not accepted. The reason for these two phone calls is that they both have siblings currently attending Elon…as mentioned in the VP Perspective about already having a relationship with the school. You will find that once your child attends Elon, you will feel part of the community, and come to expect the personal touch for which Elon is known.
I’m sure another reason is simply whether your area admissions rep was available to make these phone calls, and how many students were on his or her list.

Thnaks to of my fans!!! I will try again, I have two acceptances so far… It’s only December… CofC and University of Denver-although I prefer Elon to the two.

Does anyone know if they reject early applicants or just defer?

Sent from my iPhone

You know, I was wondering the same thing…

Hey, 13all94 ^^ My D was deferred, with an ACT score of 27 or 28. (I can’t remember.) Also like you, she’s been accepted to two schools–George Mason and DU!! It was interesting to me that you are both interested in Elon and DU.

I got deferred. My GC and I both thought I would be accepted easily lol… just goes to show how Elon’s reputation is slowly increasing! Any advice on how I can make sure I’m accepted in March? What should I say to my admissions rep? Thanks in advance.

Sorry about the deferral. I know that is disappointing. Make sure your hs sends mid-yearn grades. Email the regional rep, and just reiterate your sincere interest in Elon. Don’t say that if accepted you will attend, unless that is true. But if that is true, let them know.

Have you visited yet? If not, visit this winter and try to meet the rep, if only for a few minutes. Elon does consider demonstrated interest.

Good luck to you.
