Elon Early Action Class of 2017

I have visited- however since I haven’t gotten into my top choices, my parents are making me consider an ED II option. They think gw would be good for me, and ( ATM) it’s in my top three… Which are Tulane, Elon and Gw in that order. The prob is that I don’t think I’ll get into tulane and elon I’m unsure of since my scores are low. I would be happy to commit to GW, but wishing I got into elon

I know elon was disgustingly competitive EA , Do you think the RD pool will be less competitive???

@13all94 If you haven’t already, you should look closely at the common data sets for the schools you are still considering and waiting for. I don’t know your stats, but GW is more selective then both Elon and Tulane. Common data sets are your best bet to determine your chances of acceptance. Just Google name of school and common data set and you will find a lot of very good info.

Hey 13all94, I am also applying to GW, Tulane, and Elon. I applied EA to both Elon and Tulane, and will be doing RD to GW. I have been accepted to both Elon and Tulane, so I’m not sure if I can be any help to you or not! My stats are: GPA 3.8 uw or 4.11 w (not on any school’s gpa scale), SAT 1960 super score (Cr 650, M 640, W 660), 10 AP classes, top 10% of my class, and admittedly VERY strong with leadership roles/volunteer work/lots of ECs.
I know some students with slightly higher test scores with slightly lower GPAs and a little less as far as ECs who were also defered at Elon. As far as Tulane, did you apply EA? Everything I read said that GREATLY helped chances, as well as the optional essay basically making or breaking your application. Tulane was a stretch for me score-wise, so I think the essays were really what sealed the deal. I really have no insight as far as GW - I was confident in Elon (wrongly so after seeing who was defered) but I am more nervous about GW. Best of Luck!

Well, it looks like ED is the way to go at Elon. This explains the number of deferments in the EA pool.

They obviously place a high priority on people who love Elon and really want to go there. For those of you who were deferred in the EA pool, I’m guessing it would be really beneficial to let them know that Elon is your number 1 (if it is). That way if it’s between you and someone who’s using Elon as a safety, they’ll be more likely to choose you.

I think it’s a very strategic move that will move them up the rankings that much faster. This will encourage more ED applicants in the future, and make the remaining pool much more competitive. It also ensures that the class has a higher percentage of students who are really happy about being there, which makes a stronger class and a better experience for everyone. It does make it much tougher on students who have to wait for financial aid decisions and can’t apply ED, which bothers me a little, but that seems to be the game in college admissions everywhere these days.

I saw the same article. I believe the 86% admit rate for EA in 2012 is wrong. That was the ED admit rate in 2012. My recollection is that the EA admit rate is fairly consistent at 50% roughly.

I also really have to question the 99% ED admit rate this year? It has historically been in the 80% - 86% range. I would wait for numbers released directly from Elon before I would believe that.

This is a quote from the Dean’s blog in December 2011:

And from the Dean’s blog in December 2012:

So, the EA admit rate is quite consistent at 50% or so.

That ED rate looks way off…and I agree with RVM; I would wait to hear directly from admissions…

And the EA one of 86% last year is definitely wrong…I don’t have time to find the release numbers from last year but distinctly remember it at 51%

Well shoot. . . if I could edit that I would. I found it really surprising but just figured they were playing some tactical game. I’d feel bad if I put inaccurate information up here. I’ll be watching for Elon’s numbers.

How can it possibly be that Elon accepted all but three ED applicants? That makes no sense.

Supru - no worries - nytimes just needs better fact checking.

Does anyone know when we find out if we got accepted to the particular major/school we applied for like the business school???
