I was accepted into both Elon and Boston. I am torn between them. I feel as if Boston is better academically but Elon has all of the clubs and activities I am interested in. Any thoughts? I am not sure of my major, but I am leaning towards communications

What great choices! Lucky you! My son was not accepted to Boston College so his chaoice for Elon was really easy.

Kind of like comparing apples and oranges. Both good schools but depends on what you want. I would say that Boston is definitely more rigorous academically. Boston C is a beautiful hilly campus in an urban area. More access to lots of music and culture.

Elon is a beautiful more traditional college campus in a suburban area. Great weather compared to Boston. Your professors really get to know you here. I great education but different.

I hope you have been able to visit both schools. If not definitely do so.

Elon has an excellent School of Communications. On the other hand, BC is more selective and more highly ranked in general.

Unless you are getting financial aid, Elon is considerably less expensive.

You have two excellent choices here. Echo the recommendation to visit both if you haven’t already.

My D1 graduated from BC in '10 and has a fantastic full time job at Georgetown U. She has a ton of friends from BC who also work in DC. She found the college very challenging and the teachers fantastic. The nightlife is fun and she mentored many students from various neighborhoods in Boston. All in all a 10/10 experience, including sports and public transportation outside the front door to campus. I would go to accepted student day and take another look-see…

Good luck with this decision. Look to see where BC graduates are compared to Elon grads when comparing your schools.

^^ditto this post…especially in your area of interest…

I am in the same boat! The schools are the same price for me. I am a bio major and I’m nervous about the competitive cutthroat atmosphere at BC. I absolutely love Elon
It’s just difficult to justify attending a lesser-known university.

Also, since your a comm major, you’ll make your connections down south, and if you plan to move back north, that’s a problem.

After visiting both more than once, I’ve noticed they are both similar in that “rich, white, preppy” stereotype… But I found “normal” kids at both school.
BC is definitely more rigorous, but plan on having huge class sizes and being taught frequently by TAs. If you prefer a smaller, more intensive classroom, Elon is the place. Their largest class has 30 students.

The alumni network at BC is insane, although Elon’s is still growing.

I wish you luck on your decision!

Also, what clubs and activities are you interested in? I’m suprised BC doesn’t have them

One of the big differences for my D for not even applying to BC was the fact that freshman live on a separate campus and must take a shuttle bus to the main campus every day. It was a deal breaker…plus the general athletic facilities for non-athletes left a lot to be desired as well as wifi was not everywhere.

@momofboston
I agree with the part about the facilities but the freshman at BC can either live on Newton, which would require a shuttle, or Upper, which is on campus.
