Hi all, hope everyone is well and we have a chance to meet in person in August. My daughter will be living off campus approx. .7 miles from campus in a brand new 3 br 3 bath apt. and needs 2 roomates called Partners Place. She will consider all grade levels and majors as well as m or f if they are in Perf Arts College. Remember she is an MT kid and WILL be singing constantly........ Gosh I can tell now that I am going to miss it!

Does anyone know anything about the BA in Theater Studies offered by Elon? I was reading their website and it describes this program as one that allows the student a double major. Do the kids in this program get to audition for productions?

Does Elon accept homeschool applicants with a homeschool diploma instead of a GED? I looked and looked on the Elon website and there isn't anything for homeschool applicants.

Allyson, I don't have your answer about Elon. However, I counseled a homseschool applicant last year. Some colleges specify the requirements for homeschool applicants right on their website but not all do. For all the schools in which you are interested, you need to call the admission office and inquire 1) if they accept homeschoolers and 2) what specific requirements and documentation are required for homeschool applicants. Some schools have additional materials required. While it is good to ask questions on CC of this sort, it is imperative for questions of this importance, to inquire directly at each school in which you are interested.

Good luck to you.

Thanks soozie for your quick response! I always learn so much when reading your posts.

Sorry for the delayed response but we were getting Lexi settled in her dorm.
I do not have the answer to your question but I would start with Kimberly
Rippy. She is very helpful.

Hope that helps.

The Collage show was wonderful over parent's weekend. It really showed off the talent of all of the MT students. They are a great looking bunch of students and are very friendly and happy, as well! This show is very popular and sells out quickly. Parents had a number of other activities and had a chance to meet the outstanding teachers. The football team won their game, and all the way around, it was a fun weekend.

I sent in my audition application for the first November audition. On their website it says that you must send in your application at least two weeks before your audition date. Do they mean the academic application, audition, or both?
Thank you for your help.

alz748 - I think that means the audition application rather than the academic application, but please contact Kimberly Rippy, whose number is on the same web site, to double check. I can see how this is confusing. If you want Early Action for academic admission, I believe the admissions application is due in early Nov. You would find out about academic acceptance on 12/20 if you do Early Action, which is separate from the letter on whether you get into MT.

Please write me an e-mail, as yours is not activated (and my PMs stay full). We are arriving on your audition day to see Carousel, which I hope you will get to see. We have other CC friends who will be there that day, and I'd love to meet you. Maybe we can have a CC get-together, like I did at some of last year's auditions.

Anyone else auditioning that day - please write me. Thanks!

Hi everyone - I have a question about Elon's program. I sent an email to ElonSecretary but I don't think she participates here anymore, as I have not received a response.

My question is this - My d is interested in Elon for musical theater. Through researching their website, I see that they have a BA in Theater Studies program. Does anyone know if the BA could be supplemented so that the student could receive additional instruction (voice, dance, etc.)? For someone who wants theater training with some academics, it looked like a logical choice.

Thanks.

LAWoman - You should try to call someone in the Performing Arts Dept. at Elon to ask how easy it is for someone in that degree to also get into voice and dance.

Of course, it depends on your daughter's preference, but I believe that she would be better off in MT. Elon has general academic courses required with the major and offers flexibility in what the student takes to fulfill the requirements. I think it is a perfect mix of liberal arts and BFA training. You could also consider the Fellows program, which offers additional academic enrichment. Two of this year's MT freshmen are in the Elon College Fellows Program, including my son.

There are certain courses that only the BFA Acting and MT students take, such as Acting courses, so the Theater Studies students take different classes that are probably not as intensive. I have no idea how hard it is to get a voice teacher in this major. My observation about dance classes is that they probably fill up quickly with students majoring in MT and dance, along with dance minors. I guess one option with that major, to make sure you are getting into dance classes, would be to minor in dance.

I believe that a student who wants to perform would probably prefer the classes that go along with one of the BFA programs. On the other hand, for example, I could see where someone wanting to teach might consider the Theater Studies program. It would really be an individual decision, and your best source of information would be to go to the university directly.

Good luck. Is she auditioning this year? Feel free to write me an e-mail if you have other questions.

Thank you Ericsmom - I am sending you a PM

LAWoman - I replied to you by e-mail. Thanks!

Hello friends,
I am a long time reader and rare poster. My son will be auditioning at Elon on October 27. We plan to arrive the day before and see Carousel. I would also like to see if he can attend some classes. We just returned from shadow day at Shenandoah. That was a great experience and really gave him a feel for the school. We are a little nervous about the Elon audition as Elon is a top pick and he has not done other schools to warm up. We just liked that early date before things get too busy. Perhaps we will meet some of you there. I will keep reading for some insider tips from those who have made it.

I feel deeply indebted to all who shared so generously over the past few years on this site and I will try to answer questions about my son's auditions as we go along. We have Elon followed by Penn State and Shenandoah the first two weeks of November.

Peace

beriglour and alz748 and others going to the first 2 auditions at Elon: You will have the opportunity to see Carousel, which I hear is going to be great.

My son is absolutely thrilled, as a freshman, to be in this show, with small parts in the cast and also as a member of the dance ensemble! Our sophomore CC friends at Elon are also part of the show. Tickets go on sale later this week.

I would write you more details but your e-mails are not activated and my PMs are full. Please send me an e-mail from the pull down menu on my name if you want more information. We also know other CC friends going to each of those audition dates.

Carousel tickets are now on sale.

Ericsmom,

Thanks for the reminder...we can't wait to see your son in Carousel!

kaysmom

Good luck to all the students auditioning in the next 2 weeks. I can't believe it's that time already and a year after my son's audition.

I hope you all get to see Carousel. Look for my son in the show!

I hear it is going to be wonderful.

Just wanted to wish "good luck" to all of you who will be auditioning in the next few months.

My daughter is a freshman and couldn't be happier with her choice. I think you fall in love with Elon from the time you step foot on the campus. The faculty, professors, students, classes, opportunities and yes even the food, is "class A".

It was difficult for us to "let her go" as we live in CA but I know she is in "good hands", and it is so much easier knowing how HAPPY she is.

If I can help answer any of your questions, please pm me and I will try my best. If I don't know, I'll try to find out for you.

GOOD LUCK!
LEXISMOM

...my D just realized that her ELon audition is a week from YESTERDAY..eeeeek.......my husband is the taximan for this one and they leave Thursday morning (he has some business on the way). I have their tickets to Carousel as well!!

She really liked ELON a lot when we visited over the summer and she would love to go there... I think she might be questioning doing this important one so early.

All you folks with freshman now.....any tips on handling the week prior? WOrds to say....things NOTto say... I suspect she'll be anxious all week and on a short fuse......

And Away we go!!
