Elon University

AAAAAHHHHHHH! I can't belive that this Friday is my first audition. Right now it hasn't really hit me but I'm starting to get excited and a little nervous. I think my mom is going to have much harader time staying relaxed then I will!

MIKKSMOM

First of all, best wishes to your daughter. I know this is a very nerve-wracking time but rest assured, Elon will make you feel very welcome and comfortable.

I think just being there and being a good listener is the best you can do for your daughter. If she can, have her talk to a few students before she goes in. I think that actually helped my daughter relax a little. My daughter had the same feeling as far as auditioning for your top choice first. Had she known how well she would like Elon she probably would have waited for a later audition date. On the other hand, Elon was one of the best organized and the whole audition process ran so smoothly that it was very comforting and helped my daughter relax a lilttle more. Elon was her first audition and she was very fortunate that it all worked out.

As I am sure you have read through these posts. Some how, everyone ends up where they shoud be. It all works out. Hopefully your daughter can get as much rest as possible this week.

Good luck

lexismom

My daughter will be also be at Elon on Friday! Good luck to all of these talented kids auditioning there over the next few weeks!

Ditto to Lexismom's next to last post above. Elon will be warm and welcoming, and I think you will all love it as much as we do and as our kids do. I think you'll be there at a beautiful time of the year, also.

My son looks forward to welcoming some of his friends to campus.

Break a leg to all!

Good luck to Kaysmom's d from my d and me! We will be thinking about you and pulling for you from Delaware! My d's first audition is 11/4 at Penn State and Elon 11/17! Hard to believe it's here!

Good luck to all of you who have your audition coming up. It is hard to believe I have known some of you when your kids seemed real far off from this step but now it is here! And, I can't wait to welcome you to the "other side" in six months! :D

Try to enjoy the auditions and trips!

Thank you Dancermom! We will be pulling for you on your d's auditions as well! My d is pretty excited and really looking forward to Friday!

I am a sophomore music theatre major at Elon. Since Elonactress graduated last semester, we decided that we needed somebody else to answer everybody's questions about our amazing program! I just wanted to let everybody know that I would love to answer your questions or concerns about Elon. This weekend at Elon will be crazy with Carousel opening tomorrow and our first set of auditions are on Friday and I can't wait! I hope all is well with you all!

Oodles of MT love from Elon ~
ElonMT09

P.S. I posted this in a new thread too because I wasn't sure where I was suppose to introduce myself! I am new to College confidential ( I wish I had known about it when I was auditioning! ), so forgive me ahead of time if I get confused!

P.P.S. Break a leg to all those auditioning soon! You shouldn't worry at all about Elon's audition. Everyone is so unbelievably nice and while the audition it is structured, it has a relaxed feel to it. It was my favorite audition of all of my schools, so no worries! Just have fun and be yourselves!

ElonMT09 - Welcome! I'm so happy to have another student to share, as my posts are shared only as a parent observer!

My son auditioned Saturday. We saw Carousel on Friday (opening night). what a wonderful performance. We had to remind ourselves this was a college performance. The CC students were great as a policeman, Enoch Snow Jr and ensemble. I hear there was a gathering of CC folks at a local eatery but I missed that. My wife and I wandered the beautiful campus and checked out the library. What a gem of a school! We would like to move it about 4 hours closer but other than that not much to complain about. My son echoed what others have said: they make you feel relaxed and welcomed. He said he did not even feel like he was auditioning.

This was our first of 10 auditions. It was a great way to start.

Since the audition is a full day process, what did you all do about clothes. Since you observe an acting class first, then meet with the accompanist, did you wear your "audition outfit"? Then change into dance clothes, then change back to the audition outfit for the actual song/monologue audition? Was there time to change into dance clothes after the "meeting" right before the dance audition? Or were you better off to wear dance clothes to that meeting under the audition outfit, then just take off the audition outfit?
Help? Thanks

nydancemom - tell D to break a leg! I'll be thinking of her!!!

If it's like others last year, there was time to change back before and after dance auditions. Elon didn't have a dance audition last year, though.

Hey,
What I did was I had a comfortable outfit fir the beginning of the day which I wore for the acting class and accompanist rehearsal. Then I had plenty of time to change for dance. After dance I cooled down a little then changed before the info session into my singing and acting clothes. Remember to bring things like comb, brush, deoderant (sp?) and anything else you might want after the dance class so you look and smeel your best for the singing and acting. I chose to have a comfortable outfit for the beginning of the day because I didn't know how involved we'd be in the acting class or how long I might have had to sit in those clothes so I didn't want to get them wrinkled and I also just wanted to feel as comfortable as possible in the morning.

My d also had a cute casual outfit for the audition class and rehearsal...then changed into her dancewear...then into her audition clothes. There was plenty of time for all the changing and to touch up make-up, hair etc! Your d will do awesome tomorrow! I can't wait to hear all about it! Tell her to Break a leg!

Best wishes to all of you who will be auditioning this week-end.

As stated above, last year they did not have a required dance audition (you could dance or sing. I know my daughter had plenty of time to change her outfit from casual to her audition outfit.

I know she took some crackers and tea and an apple as she doesn't like to eat a lot before she sings for an audition and that was enough to hold her over. Other things you may want to pack is extra pair of nylons, hairspray, extra outfit (just in case something spills on original outfit), small tape recording (for warm ups). This is just a few things my daughter brought with her.

Good Luck
lexismom

My D. did same as Applegate 13. She sat on a cold floor during the early morning (hr. & half) acting class so it was a good idea to wear (casual) pants. It was a rainy cold day, and a bit of a walk......so bring an umbrella (too) just in case. :-)

We sure did have a terribly weather day and forgot our umbrella! The crackers or snack is a good idea. It is a long day there and although you may have some time to run and eat, my daughter also can't eat anything major before hand.

I think the people who auditioned this past Friday had lovely weather, as it was very pretty the whole weekend! I'm sorry you had rain the previous week.

We've just returned from NC. I wanted to say that Carousel was really an incredible production in every way, and we were so proud of the wonderful job that was done by all the CC kids! Also, all the leads were very good at both singing and acting, the set, costumes, lighting, and special effects were beautiful, and the choreography in the group and individual dance numbers was absolutely breath-taking. I don't even know how to adequately describe it, but it was all very magical to watch! I think they either had really thoughtful casting or really good direction (most likely a combination of both!!!), because everyone seemed perfect for their various parts in the show. The music was wonderful with a large live orchestra playing in the orchestra pit! That show has some wonderful music.

I was impressed all over again! Good job to those of you reading that were part of the show!

I want to second what Ericsmom said...Carousel was wonderful! Everyone was extremely talented and we were impressed again with another Elon show! Ericsmom's son did a fabulous job and I think there were only 2 or 3 freshman cast so cudos to them! It was so nice to meet some cc families too!

Every day I am so thankful that our daughter is where she is. So many reasons hard to list them all.

Isn't it hard to believe that they almost have their first semester of college done.
