Email from Dean of Admissions?

Okay, this afternoon I get a letter that says this:

Rmadden15,

I just completed reading your application this morning and wanted to write and congratulate you on an impressive high school career. You have had terrific success at my high school's name . I must say that I especially enjoyed reading your essay. You have a beautiful way with words. Your writing was personal and your description of how your decision impacted you and your life is one of the best I’ve read so far this year.

Congratulations again on all you have accomplished. I wish you the best of luck as you consider colleges. I know you will find a welcoming community that will challenge you. I do hope you will visit us and give strong consideration to UVa this spring.

Have a nice weekend. I hope you’re getting some snow in Burrville.

Best wishes,

Greg Roberts<---Who is the Dean of Admissions at UVA

What should I get from this? As in, is it showing that my chances are good, or do you think it is normal for applicants to get these?

You might be admitted to the Echols Scholars program, those are usually the people who hear back early.

I just got an email 2 days ago, also from Greg Roberts, but it was VERY generic. It said “Dear,” ( literally----not any name!) and… the waiting is hard, we know,…we’ll try to keep you informed…and at the bottom was a section called “Notes from Sean” or something like that.

I am thinking THIS email was sent out to everyone. But congrats, rmadden15, on your letter! Very exciting!

I don’t recall ever reading about these types of emails being sent in the past…I thought “likely letters” came by regular mail? Am I correct?

Anyway, sounds to me like you got your “ticket”…congrats!

Hmm, I thought it was weird as well, but I am not complaining. And you think I made it into the Echols Scholars program? If so, helllooooo UVa. :D

It is what it is. The Dean liked your essays.

Thanks Dean J, you would probably know best on this site. :D

Every year, people read more into a little email from an admission officer. I think it’s a HUGE compliment that someone stopped to write…we have huge work loads. Our staff is the same size today with 22,000 apps as it was when we had 18,500 apps. We have a lot to do.

You obviously did a good job! Congrats :)

Obviously, there are still about 6-8 weeks to go in our process, so nothing is set in stone just yet.

“Have a nice weekend. I hope you’re getting some snow in Burrville.”

I’d recommend not using exact lines from your e-mails, they can figure out who is behind a screen-name pretty easily.

Their location is listed as Burrville, Antarctica so I think it is a joke

Since I’m from D.C., I thought of the Burrville neighboord in North-East, where it has been snowing.

Haha, seeing that it is once again a fake location, you can stop worrying. :stuck_out_tongue:

P.S. Who is they? You just threw the word out there…
