Email Regarding Financial Aid = Good sign?

Hey guys, I just had a quick question.
Everything that I’ve sent in has been “received and satisfied.” I noticed, however, that there are three new documents that the financial office wants me to send in (the date of the update is today, 3/26). Is this a good sign? I don’t want to get my hopes up–I’ve already been rejected/waitlisted by two schools–but it would seem counterproductive for the financial aid department to ask for more documents from an applicant who has been rejected.
I am assuming that decisions have already been finalized since they are being released in two days. Then again, I could be wrong about this.
What do you guys think?

Obviously, any updates this late in the game sound promising. Of course, we are not sure about anything. What were the titles of those documents?

Two of them are business tax returns (I wasn’t aware that I had include them within my IDOC packet when I sent that in) and the last document is a “Verification of Parents’ Assets” form. The last document is linked and leads to the form, which you can print out and send in.

I think HONORLIONS had a similar document. check http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/dartmouth-college/1465701-email-regarding-financial-aid-good-sign-7.html</a></p>

^that’s this thread, haha

It’s a link to page 7 of this thread.

oh, my b! I’m on my phone and didn’t actually click the link - just assumed based on the title ._.

Ok so I may be on to something… For everyone that has “Received-Review in Progress” as their financial status, are business tax returns and Verification of Parents’ Assets included in your portal? Mine aren’t, and Dartmouth hasn’t contacted me about it so I’m assuming this means bad news for me :frowning:
Also, for everyone that has everything satisfied, are business tax returns and Verification of Parents’ Assets included?

Everything in my portal is satisfied. I don’t have verification of assets or business tax returns.

BUT - let me just say that there’s no reason Dartmouth would need business tax returns if your family doesn’t operate a business. Likewise, if your parents don’t have assets, why would they need to be verified?

(My parents do have assets, btw. How obnoxious. I’ll just see what happens come Thursday.)

Yes, that’s true, but Boston College (after I was admitted) had me send in some form of business tax returns even though my parents don’t operate a business. I guess I’m just a little too anxious :)

Strange - I think my parents actually did have a business on their 2011 forms, and BC didn’t ask me for anything. My FA stuff is all confusing because we got audited in January (ouch) - apparently my parents filled some stuff out wrong, because they don’t actually operate a business (they rent out a couple of houses, which are the assets I mentioned). So we had to file new taxes and make corrections to the FAFSA and yada yada yada. My schools probably have more info than they need at this point, but I would have liked an email, lol.

Anyway, I hear you. I’m anxious beyond belief. Barnard tomorrow, Ivies on Thursday, and Tufts on Friday… I’m in pieces. Just trying to hide it

I submitted all the required FA docs for my D on time before the deadlines. I never received anything from the FA dept. that I can remember that said anything was missing or incomplete. D never received a likely letter either. CSS and FAFSA were received and satisfied on 11/2012 & 01/2013. The status on the other FA items changed around February 20, 2013 to Received - in review process. Everything is still in that status as of tonight. A few days ago I read a DC early admit said even after he was accepted the items in FA said Received - in review process. I thought it was a positive when the items changed to that new status. Then I wasn’t sure. I was pleased to read what the EA had to say and hoping for the best. Two days and counting down. Good luck everyone!

I just posted this reply in the RD class of 2017 section but I thought I would copy it in this section as it appears it’s more appropriate here:

"Not sure if this helps you any but as a parent of a student who received his acceptance ED in Nov/Dec 2012, we received a financial aid reminder of docs missing right beforehand. Even though he received a likely letter in late Oct/Nov, it still makes one nervous waiting for the actual acceptance. We asked if having a missing doc so close to ED acceptance letters coming out would impact his formal acceptance. Of course, they are not able to reveal or speculate on acceptance, but I felt from the conversation that being reminded of a missing doc is a GOOD sign.

Good luck to you all. "

Muahahaha! Accepted to Dartmouth with a missing IDOC reminder on March 13th (P.S I had a 26 ACT). Correlation, or Cause-effect? I’m crying right now!

Accepted! I got “good vibes” (read back to see my FA stuff) beforehand, but now it’s up to next year’s applicants to sort through it all and look for correlations.
Congrats to all accepted, and to those waitlisted/rejected - Dartmouth doesn’t deserve you!

^ Yeah, I had good vibes too after seeing that my financial aid status was updated literally two days before the decisions release.

Got the FA email, no likely letter, but accepted. :)

Got the emails. Got reviewed and satisfied too. But waitlisted. I guess I was in the final stage of admissions and then got screwed.

Never went past ‘in review’, and only got two generic emails.

ACCEPTED.

Accepted!!! This FA thing is convincing. (late feb. email for me)
