Email Regarding Financial Aid = Good sign?

Reading through the posts in this thread, I feel like something strange is going on for me.
I got that same email (“Although the Admissions Committee is still deliberating…”), but on March 11th.
And I realize everyone’s saying that “received - review in progress” is probably a bad sign, but my mine says, most recently, “As of date” March 21st. Wouldn’t it be a good thing that they’ve looked at my documents so recently, or am I just getting my hopes up?

Also, here’s a weird thing: Dartmouth says the document, “Dartmouth Renewal Financial Aid Application,” is “received and reviewed” as of March 21st, but I never even sent that document. I don’t even know what it is, and I don’t remember (but maybe I’m wrong) seeing that document on the list of requirements before today. Anyone have any clue?

@2thepoint, did they ask for something new and specific, or was it more of an “I didn’t submit the IDOC in time” sort of thing?

@chessloser3201, I would think that is better than “received - review in progress”. My speculation is that you might have a chance because they looked into your file at last minute. My two cents is there is almost none chance for anyone whose IDOC documents are still in “received -review in progress” status. It is always a better sign if you passed that phase.

I’ve still got 5 that say ‘received - review in progress’.

So if it says review and satisfied… What does that mean? I’m confused…

@chessloser, I think you might want to call the Dartmouth financial aid office on Monday, because that “Dartmouth Renewal Financial Appliction” tab sounds like something that a second, third or fourth year Dartmouth student might have as they reapply for financial aid.

Anyways guys, we’ve really come down to the final stretch. As promised, I’ll come back on Thursday and note whether I got in or not to put an end to this whole financial aid email speculation once and for all for future Dartmouth applicants.

Ahh… my advice… don’t stress!! :stuck_out_tongue:
This is all so confusing!!

Just over 5 days now, so we’ll know soon and this time for certain!! :)

All the best everyone!! :D

Whats your guys’s latest “as of date” date? Mines is March 08, 2013.

Mine was in February

March 7 for me. I turned in the IDOC right around 3/1.

Been ‘review in progress’ since March 11th.

“Received and satisfied” as of February 4th ***

forgot to mention my stuff is received and satisfied. that’s all as of 3/7.

okay, so mine still says received and review in progress as of March 7th for my IDOC docs. But the thing is, my IDOC packet got to them on March 7th, so does this mean I may be out of the running if they never updated this? Everything else says received and satisfied though.

Checking my Financial Aid portal, all of my documents say “review in progress,” with each having dates of March 7th. If it still says that review is in progress, does that mean that they pretty much tossed my app in the trash and didn’t bother to update it with “review complete” ?

Pardon my drawing to negative conclusions.

^ that seems to be the general consensus of this thread? but who knows - people got likelies with some of their stuff missing. I feel like if by the middle of the week your stuff still says review in progress, that’s probably not a good sign.

then again, the whole reason this thread exists is because we have no idea what all this stuff means. come march 28th (SO SOON! ahhh), we’ll find out for sure! we should all come back here and post what our outcomes were… maybe help next year’s applicants out a bit.

I emailed the Office because my mother’s W-2s were still listed as Incomplete or Missing even though I had sent them. Someone got back to me and let me know that some numbers weren’t adding up and I probably forgot to send one W-2. The email was detailed enough to where I got a good vibe from it, but I’m also not taking it as a sign of anything. I wonder why they didn’t contact me first over a situation like this, but perhaps they got busy and put me to the side for later.

It is possible that the FA Office starts building packages very early, starting with the most likely admits (not sure how that’d be determined if Admissions and FA are definitely separate), and may abandon some once they reach news that that applicant hasn’t been accepted. They have so many applicants that I just don’t see them building as each accepted student is sent their way, but I could be wrong. So it is possible that they began building mine or anyone’s and won’t be finishing it. It does seem cruel though for them to email me back informatively if I have already been rejected. And it is also possible that we are all still being deliberated upon. You never know how last-minute a college can be, so don’t give up hope if your status hasn’t been updated yet, or take a step back and stop looking at it if it’s worrying you.

If you have documents in stages for awhile, you could always email and see what they say, but hopefully you’re nice and actually interested instead of attempting to get a response just to see if it’s an indication of your admission status. They are probably very busy and have a job to do. :)

Decisions are around the corner so for now, I’m going to just have to chill. Also, are decisions coming out the 28th? The portal says on or before April 1st. Where are you guys seeing the 28th? It’d be great if it came out sooner than the 1st.

Yep, on the 28th.

Good luck, everyone, at D and elsewhere. Don’t forget to come back and let us know how you fared. :)

I think I’m getting rejected. Sent everything on 21st, everything but FAFSA/Profile is “Review in Progress”. Probably wasn’t meant for the Ivies anyways.
