Likely Letter Financial Aid Mystery

Ok, so I've heard that people that get likelies, first get a Financial aid confirmation. Mine started along the lines of:

"Although the Admissions Committee is still deliberating, the Financial Aid Office is currently reviewing Class of 2013 documents. We want to ensure that when candidates are selected for admission, we will have sufficient information on file to make a financial aid decision. "

Is this a reason to think that a likely letter is coming my way, or just regular protocol?
Thanks guys!!!

that's the exact email i got before i got my likely letter. i think there is a very good reason that good news is on the way, but don't get too excited just yet!

I completely disagree with Wingless. I think it's just standard stuff. They want to make sure they have all your FA info.

Ok, keep the comments coming. I want to get to the end of this. Let's see if there is a pattern.

I first got that email, then I went to visit Dartmouth the following week. While I was there, I asked the financial aid office about the email and whether there would be any consequences of submitting tax info late. She said (in as accurate wording as I can remember), my file would be reviewed the same way for the same aid, assuming I were to be accepted. The last part about acceptance was stressed a few times, which implies that the email had nothing to do with admission.

But, the good news is that I received a likely letter approx. two weeks after the email.

I guess it can't be bad news, but don't base your hopes on that. (Otherwise, that would mean every college that didn't chase after your tax forms has not accepted you, right?)

Just from a workload point of view, with an anticipated 10% or lower regular round acceptance rate, I can't believe that the financial aid office even bothers to check whether financial aid applications are complete until a student has been accepted.

^exactly my thoughts.....It would be a waste of time and effort.

I got the email Monday, no letter yet.

I got an email around feb. 10 and got a likely on the 14....I think it's a solid pattern.

got financial aid email feb. 17 (which i totally forgot about until i saw this thread)
got likely letter feb. 23

Well, maybe I'm wrong. It's been known to happen.

I think we solved it guys!!! It's the pattern, I'm getting hopeful now!!!

BigWeight you're going to jinx it!

I applied ED and got a similar email like a week before the notification date. With the number of applicants that Dartmouth gets, you seem to be in good shape. Best of luck to you :)

I got mine a few days before my likely letter as well

I think I break the pattern.

I got my likely letter... But no financial aid mail lol

Yup same here, but I didn't apply for fin aid so that's why.

I guess...has anyone gotten that email and not gotten a likely letter?

<- Got the e-mail last Monday, no likely.

then we are third wave likely letter

i think i may get one, cuz i got one from Duke

Well I hope for the best for both of us. Will update tomorrow. I'm located in the midwest, so if I was to receive one, it should be here within the next couple of days max.
