I'm told by some people that it's not a bad idea to email prof's when my application is being reviewed by the admission committee and tell them that I'm interested in their research and to "take a look" at my application. Is it a good idea? Some people say it might increase your chances.
I haven't emailed the prof's before admission. I found the information I needed at their lab website and have mentioned their names in my SOP. I'm applying for MS btw.
Actually I don't know much about how the admission works. There is an admission committee who reviews the applications, but I don't know whether other prof's are involved at this stage or not.

Thanks.
