<p>I am a senior majoring in math, and am thinking of applying to grad schools for a MS in Statistics. I heard that when you have picked out schools, you should pick out a professor there who is doing something interesting and send an email introducing yourself and asking if you could work with them. Is this really necessary? The admissions pages never mention it, and I'm undecided about what I would like to focus on...</p>
