Why? I was pretty clear I thought

Your assumption that honesty implies poverty or, in this case, that one must cheat to get into a good school, is flawed. You should apply as you are (having seen your other stats thread) and hope for the best. I'm willing to bet that you're in at UMaryland and UIUC.

And as for the insult, I call em like I see em. If you're going to comment on someone's misuse of pronouns (even in jest), your grammar is fair game.

Well I'm glad to hear that about Md and UIUC everyone is telling me that too. No worries about the insult it was just a joke. I have always believed that it is impossible to be law abiding and oppulent at the same time, that will never change, sorry just my opinion.

Wait, are you honestly trying to justify lying on an application because you didn't go out and do stuff?

You lived in Brooklyn and that's hell? I'm trying to understand your concept of hell. Please describe it for us that don't live in "hell".

Yes, anyone that goes on CC is probably intelligent enough to understand that the real life has cheaters and yes, they do win many times. But to try and use that as justification is sick.

Well I saw my best friend take a bullet in the head when he was 6...

That's something that doesn't happen everyday. No offense, but does that thought plague you every day? I've lived in similar environments until I got into half of middle school. You don't lie, you just deal with it.

Well it was a pretty tramatic moment for me considering I was a kid, and yea I do think about it a lot, I'll never forget it, maybe I'm weak.

okay, I can understand tramatic moments, understand living in hell and trying to write an essay that makes the adcoms feel for your situation. But lying? I know you already said you won't do it, but I can't even see the logic behind that.

For like the 80th time I WON"T LIE on my app, but it's obviously tempting. The logic? Well if they don't catch me I get in, simple as that, anyway just drop it.

Do you seriously think you're the only one with a hard life? Just because you had it tough at times does not give you the reason to lie in life. Can you really hold that in your concious? If I knew I got into a school due to lying, it would haunt me for the rest of my life. Even the thought of being caught scares me. Its ridiculous that you think that because you had a rough childhood, you can simply lie your way through life. And there's a point to which you can exploit your troubles: saying you couldn't do ECs because of a sick family member and living in "hell" is exploiting it. Lying about ECs you didn't do is downright wrong.
Besides, to be competative in the EC department, you need a variety of things as well as leadership and continuation. If you list a bunch of things that you "did", you're only increasing your chances of getting caught. But if you only list a few, then you're ECs look weak.
So just stick to your grandmother's story and try to use it as "because I never did anything before, I want to do stuff now"

Or maybe the adcoms would like to see "because I never did anything, i'm just going to b**** about it, and then make a bunch of stuff up and lie my way through life"
Classy!

PS - would you ever shoplift, simply because you might not get caught? If you say no, then what's the difference between lying, simply because you might not get caught?

No I have never stolen anything or commited any crime in my life so please don't make any assumptions. If I lied my way into a great school I would be so happy and I would be gloating about it forever. That is such a great achievement in my opinion. However, the thought of being caught does scare me so for the 1000000000th time I wil NOT lie on my app, ok????

"If I lied my way into a great school I would be so happy and I would be gloating about it forever."

Find some morals. And grow a spine. Please, for all of us.

He would probably get kicked out for plagiarism within the first month anyway.

how about that dude who lied on his Yale app, got in from a community college, and then got caught and kicked out just before he earned his degree.

Know what happened to him? He works in a small near-min. wage job in California trying to pay off the charges Yale sued him for (need-based financial aid awards in the tens of thousands).

I forgot the name of the guy, look it up on google. Point is, your pretty dumb if you think your lying scheme is a novel idea.

Do you know exactly what the guy was guilty of?

I would guess fraud. I believe you will also get your degree taken away even AFTER you've graduated if you are found to have lied on your application.

I think when you finish your application, you have to sign that like, you didn't lie on any of these things and if you did, this and this could happen to you.

You aren't alone in growing up in a place like hell, so don't act like it. Describe your hell so that it can be accurately assessed, but don't presume it's some kind of tool to launch you into "these schools" or that you deserve to get into "these schools" anymore than anyone else, tough life or not.

Oh, and by the way, the test of a criminal mind is usually whether someone is sorry for what they did, or just sorry that they got caught

people in this thread needs to chill...
man its like speeding on the high way
sure speeding is bad but chances of getting caught aint that high
true probably its a moral issue but it comes down to how much u want to impress them
TBH if a UC representative could say "we don't check the ECs, just don't make them too obvious"
then what can i say?
i think u guys are whining more than those UC officials are

if u absolutely don't wanna "lie" or "butter-up" ur ECs or application hey thats fine with me
its like i don't take drugs but hey i m not gonna judge people and say u fruitcake scum of society for people who take drugs should i

tsk look at urself
