I think we're getting a little lofty. There is a difference between saying you were at Literature Club every week for three hours when it actually only met monthly for an hour and saying you were president of the club when in fact you were never even a member. Everybody embellishes: it's the nature of resúmés and applications. Boldfaced lying is a completely different animal and entirely unacceptable. Anybody suggesting that exaggerating a few points is tantamount to fraud needs to be honest with themself and be realistic. That said, if you're in doubt about a particular item on the application, don't fudge it - play it safe.

dont listen to everyone here.

they're just acting like a good conscience because deep down, they're some of the sneakest, cut-throat people in the academic world.

people on these forums are all about their own self interest. they'll lie to people applying to the same programs JUST to give themselves a better shot. not saying this has happened, but i know the type and i wouldn't be surprised.

that said, lying is wrong, but unless you're lying about something big, they're not going check up on your hours on some lame EC. so exaggerate. we all do.

but straight up lying is just dumb and spineless.

If u'=0...

I repeat my above comment about criminal minds.

Don't lie. Frankly, don't even embelish unless it's REALLY minor embellishing.

The whole system falls apart if admission officers can't trust the accuracy of applications.

Spare me the melodrama and cut the horse****. The system already fell apart when affirmative action and community service became so instrumental to the application process. It's become so damned subjective that there is no longer any semblance of fairness or consistency with anyone. Because nearly everyone embellishes to an extent whether they admit to it or not, adcoms must sift through the fluff and discern what is true and what is not, and believe me, they are more aware than we know, so don't push your luck.

thats very true. they know fluff when they see it and i bet it annoys them lol

why the heck would you bump this thread?
