Hi, I am sending in my common app very soon (tentative deadline set by guidance counselor). I have everything except teacher recommendations. I have been told by others that I can send them after I submit the common app--is this true? Thanks.

You might need to clarify exactly what you are asking. “You” don’t send in the teacher recs on the common app. You invite the teachers and they do them online. I think there is also a paper option, but the schools that my son applied to really didn’t like this. Even if the paper option is used, you don’t send them. The teacher sends them or gives them to the transcript/guidance office for them to send.

Are you asking if you can invite the teachers after the deadline? Or are you asking what if they are late?

The answer will also depend on the school. I know that one of the ones my son applied to said that if the teacher recs weren’t there on the ED date, they would let you know so you could follow up with the teacher- so in that case, they would take it after the official date. But this could vary by college.

Sorry about being a little confusing. Here is the situation: I have notified my teachers about their recommendations and they currently are working on them. I told my guidance counselor that I would have the common application done by this week, which is true (applying reg. decision for Jan. deadlines). My teachers will not have their recs done by this week–can I not submit the common app until they are finished? Or, can I submit the common app now and have them submit their recs later? Thanks.

You can submit the commonapp now, it is completely separate from the teacher recs. Your teachers can send those along at any time before or after the commonapp is submitted.
