Emerson Audition

Has anyone auditioned for Emerson yet? Mine is this weekend and I wanted to know if the people who auditioned on November 20th could give me any feedback on the audition? How did it go?

Thanks!

Well, my D auditioned two years out. I can’t say if its any different, but based upon reading from last year, I would doubt it. She loved Emerson, was accepted early into the BFA Acting problem, and after much soul searching, chose UCLA, where she is now a sophomore in Theatre/Acting.

But at Emerson, you self select when you want to audition. If you are the kind who wants to go first, you can. If you need time to prepare, then you take all the time you need. You get there at the specified time, and they bring you and the other students into the room and tell you how it will go. Then its when you are ready. It seems to work for them. There are always students who want to go first. While you are auditioning, parents get the scoop from the powers that be.

My D auditioned with one auditor. He had her perform her monologue a variety of ways, to see how she would take direction. Then he told her to do her monologue in her own words. She actually had done this exercise with her coach, so she was ready. Then she sat across from him and they talked about Emerson, why she was interested in going there, and various other things, like her interests in different acting methods.

When she left, she felt very good, like it had gone well. But we didn’t know for sure. The one thing we have learned through this process and this webpage is when you walk out the door, you just do not know. She felt great at some auditions and didn’t get in. She didn’t think she got into UCLA, but she did. So you cannot ever tell. You must go in there, and do your best, and walk out proud that you did. What happens happens and is completely out of your control once you leave the room.

BAL… Let us know how you do. :)

Hi Clemme, Good Luck with your audition. I had the same question you did, my D will be auditioning this weekend at Emerson. I hope you do well. I wonder how long the process is? It sounds like they spend more time interviewing. Thanks Chrissy :)

@chrissyblu- thank you so much! That was so helpful. It’s so good to know ahead of time that they might ask me to do my monologue in a variety of ways. I really do feel a lot more prepared now!

Do you think volunteering to go first would be a wise decision? Or would it not matter? I really have no preference of what number I am.

And thank you also for the advice on keeping a positive attitude…everyone seems to say that’s the best method, no matter how hard it may be.

I will let you both know how it goes :)

maggie3- tell your daughter to break a leg :)

What happened?

Clemme & maggie3 - How did it go?

Ditto! Hope legs were broken.

Hi - D said audition went well. She waited a good hour 1/2 and the entire audition was only 15 min. She felt relaxed and comfortable with the reviewer. The questions were basic, why Emerson etc. She asked where she was from and when my D told her, she was very familiar with the location. It was very informal and relaxing for her and she came out smiling and no broken legs :)

I’m glad she feels good about it. Its great that she came out smiling. I hope all our kids have plenty to smile about as they go through the exhilerating ride of auditions.

My audition went really well but unfortunately I wasn’t admitted. Thanks for all of your advice!

I’m sorry clemme. But I hope you can take the positive audition experience and use it to spur you on in your future auditions.
