I don’t know if anyone actually reads this section of the posts (it seems to be pretty much in disuse ), but I just had to comment on the emerson auditions. I have honestly never had a better audition experience in my life! The auditioners (-ees?) were treated with such respect and cordiality! We were led with the help of several friendly students into a comfy classroom where another friendly student checked us in and took headshots. After several minutes the head of audition admissions came in and introduced himself, along with the two faculty members who would be seeing our auditions. Those two then led a discussion for about 45 minutes about the school and the audition process. They were so friendly and easygoing, all of us nervous students were very reassured. Then they took four volunteers (and gradually took more as the first finished) into the outside corridor and into two seperate rooms. For those of us who didn’t volunteer first, the waiting room was quite pleasant. I talked for about two hours with eager friends from all over the country who were as enthusiastic about theater as I. Even the receptionist talked with us about her experiences so far at Emerson (she was a freshman)
When it came time for me to go into the room i was nervous of course, but the professor was so so friendly. We talked about my resume for a while, which led into some good discussions about my hobbies and personality. When i finally did my monologue, he seemed genuinly interested and had me do the last section over, but in a different way. He then thanked me warmly and wished me luck.
For anyone considering Emerson, make this your fist audition. The friendly and comforting atmosphere along with the great kids you’ll meet makes for a rewarding and, yes, even FUN audition!!!

I'm auditioning February 5th at the Unifieds!! I'm soooo excited, I just hope that are just as friendly at Unifieds as they are at their campus auditions!

We plan to audition, but I'm concerned about the reaudition and cuts after the second year. Does anyone from Emerson have any encouraging words along this line?

I'm not from Emerson but I am auditioning there. The feeling I recieved about the cuts from them is that you only get cut if your heart, dedication, and full commitment isn't there. If you keep working hard you should be perfectly fine after your second year. But please correct me if I am wrong.

The guy said there's no official 'cut'. You basically just keep in contact with your guidance counselor/advisor person, and they help you make sure you're really doing what you want. He said no on ethat really wants to stay in the program ever gets cut, and its usually only a few people that do, people who would be happier in another major :)

My son is now a sophomore at Emerson. The audition process to get into schools was fascinating. His reactions varied from "I hate this place", or "I don't like these people" to the one at Emerson: "That was fun. I'd love to do that again." They emphasized that you should not think about what they want and please them, but be true to yourself. This philosophy seems central to their approach. They also said that they also were looking for your collaboration with the pianist.

As to the cut policy.... As an outside observer this year, it didn't seem
like a lot of fun. I don't know if the two cut really expected it, but other students didn't.

Do you know how many students they take into the program each year? and how many they cut?

I was just at Victoria Busserts Intensive and she explained a lot about how some schools cut. And she was saying how some school start out with 40-80 students and cut more than half.

a friend said the current mt class has 28.. im not familiar with the language of the cut system though when it comes to if they have an exact number they cut..but i doubt it.

im auditioning this saturday and the auditon process doesnt seem intimidating at all... anyone else auditioning november 15th during the open house?
