Emerson College

Well considering the application is due like, soon, I should probably get moving and send my stuff in, but since I'm going for advertising, I'm sending a CD of a sample video advertisement that I made recently. I think I might send them some photography or a writing sample. Not sure yet though.

That sounds good. I sent them a writing sample. I don't have any films (at least not that are good enough to send in) so I thought the writing might be better.

That's cool. Yeah, I'm not sure if my video is good or not either. But I'll take a risk :)

I don't think anything is really going to damage your chances so its worth the risk.

I was accepted EA to Emerson (But i got in ED to my first choice school, Northwestern, though i would have gone to emerson if i wasn't), and i didnt submit a portfolio..my first choice major was marketing commucations and second choice was print jounrnalism. I'm sure a portfolio would help you if you did submit one.

Ok, thanks a lot for your post!

I love Emerson...i seem like an emerson gal don't i? my name is mer so i always look at it as e-MER-son! but that's just because i'm a big dork. i want to go into the honors program, didn't take sat I's yet. what should i aim for? with my courseload, i can bring my GPA to at least a 3.7-3.8....but admissions won't see that if i apply early action..would it be better to do just reg. decision for honors?

btw Kid A 197 nice tunes.

While I've heard Emerson is a "joke "school" and basically a haven for druggies and chain smokers, it does look pretty appealing. I'm really into the arts (and so considered Emerson), and the Emerson kids seem so incredibly into what they study/do. Boston is, as everyone knows, a great place for college, as there are so many students running around in such an upscale city.
I like the atmosphere of everybody genuinely "artsy." However, I've also heard this becomes a problem, as everyone assumes they are the "next big thing." The course load is not at all rigorous, which is great in the sense that it gives one limitless freedom to do what one wants. But, when it comes to academics and talent, the school isn't in the same league as NYU or even Berklee, for that matter. It's a bit of an insult to NYU students to be compared to those at Emerson.

Your a pretentious prick. A school in which the average GPA is a 3.5 is hardly what I would consider a "joke school" The average GPA for NYU is no where above a 3.8. Emersons one of the top rate communication schools with outstanding alumni that consist of more than the Olsen Twins. kthxbye.

btw flabbergatsbee, my ECs are slighly better but my GPA is slightly less and on the "What Are My Chances" forum they all thought i had a good chance, so I think u will have a good chance as well. =D

thnk you for the compliment btw =D

i do alot of volunteer work that has to do with the major i wanna go into, like helping produce shows in my towns Cable Acces town. They really like that.

I wouldn't even give your GPA a thought. When I vsited, Sarah Ramirez, the director of admissions, stressed that GPA was only a small part of the picture. Yes, they want bright kids but most of all they want the yearbook editors, the poets, the writers, the web designers. the band kids, the theater etc, etc. She also stressed that they like regular high school kids - you don't have to be a published, acclaimed writer to get into creative writing. Kid A 197, you should have no problem getting in.

yea KID A emerson is awesome! i hate how they judge schools just by GPA, i can tell just by visiting emerson i'm going to get a good education and have a helluva good time doing it. hope we both get accepted! is emerson your first choice?

oh ya. by far

where else are you applying

ithaca, qunnipiac (saftey) champlain (insanely safety), and thats it.

My highschool hasnt calulated our last years GPAs so right now after my sophomore year, I have just shy of a 3.1, which isnt that good for Emerson. Once the junior grades get it, I calcualted it to a 3.301, but im afraid I couldve calculated wrong or something.

However i think my ECs, web design teachers extremely flattering recommendation and my music, that you said you liked, should give me a good shot.

Have you visited Ithaca yet? I want to check it out too. I'm applying to Emerson, Northeastern, Fordham and Suffolk, EA. Ithaca and Quinnipiac RD.

flappergatsbee and Kid A are you guys or girls?

im a guy,i believethat flabbergatsbee mkaes mention of herself as a girl

i'm a girl!!!!!!!!!!!! yay

i haven't heard of a male flapper yet. though if you are one, do contact me `=P

isn't ithaca in the middle of nowhere? i can't stand isolation. i can stand isolation to the point that it's 20 minutes from a city b/c i can't stand universities...you're both doing quinnipiac? how're the people/facilities in comparison to emerson?
