OK, I did not apply to Emerson College however I am just curious if there are any CC kids who applied or going to apply to this College. I was just looking at the College's website and found it amazingly comparable to NYU in some aspects. The College is in the heart of Boston, a major city however less populated than NYC is, and it is specialized in Communication and the Arts like the Tisch at NYU. I do not know much about those fields but I reckon that Tisch has similar programs. It is obvious that NYU is more prestigious and well known than Emerson College is, but I can see that if Emerson receives more recognitions and funds from the outside, the College has the potential to grow into a well established one. The College itself possesses some very attractive factors such as its urban location especially when the College is in the heart of the theater district of the city of Boston and the fact that it is geared towards a specific field which could mean an above if not significantly high average starting salary of its graduates.

Does anyone want to invest in this College with me? I really would like to donate some money to this College and have my name on some halls or something. I can clearly see that the College will grow into a prestigious institution soon; nonetheless, it needs some serious funds.

i wish i applied to emmerson, i love everything about it, the only thing is if they don't offer fashion design, if they did, i would be there no questions asked in fall 2005.

I applied EA and got in, but not for my major.

I visited the campus early Dec., I really like it, I love Boston, etc. I am not sure if I will attend under a different major, but I believe I would be happy there! I love the radio station, too.

Im going to look at this school in the spring. I can't wait. It seems like a great school. I'm curious to see what's what with the students though, if you read StudentsReview they seem to be an odd bunch, after all they were named "#1 Dodgeball Targets" by Princeton Review. I guess my hesitation would be I'm more of a tech guy(interested in the multmedia program) and wonder how I'll fit in with all the "artsy" people that seem to be there.

It is amusing. What do they mean by "#1 Dodge Ball Targe"? If I had some interests in this area, I would have applied to Emerson, seriously. I love Boston, although not as much as I love New York City, and I love the feeling that the College has so much potential.

Congratulations to the people who got in. My friend Dan K. is deferred and now waiting for the final decision. I think he had about 1140 SAT1 but had some amazing creative works. Another student from my school got rejected right away and she had 1180 on her SAT1 so I really think that SAT1 is not everthing especially to the schools like Emerson College where they weigh your creative works equally heavy.

Does anybody know anything about the College's reputation and so on?

Also, what is the honors program that they have?

I want to do journalism, and I'm applying there. At first I was kind of worried about whether or not they'd have classes in other subjects, but visiting the campus fixed that...and I love Boston.

I was never interested in this field but now I am considering it...I talked to my parent about this and of course for she is the typical Asian mother thought that it is silly to earn a degree in that field...I don't understand, why can't I do something that I want to? haha :(

anyway, I just looked at the job placement statistics of its graduates and was stunned by rather "eh..." salary statistics...

I visited Emerson in November and absolutely loved it. I was so impressed with their facilities and by the dedication of the students. Also, a lot of their alumni has gone on to be incredibly successful. I don't think SATs are a major factor in gaining admission and it is based more on talent and ability. If you're interested in any fields they have to offer, its a really awesome school.

Emerson likes to choose really unique people. They want "interesting" people, I think; when a rep came to my city and spoke, he really put emphasis on that. Emerson students definitely have a "look," which is not always a great thing but is also not a big deal. Students that go there are usually pretty interested in their major. They offer a semester in Los Angeles, which I hear is FABULOUS for making connections (depending on your major, and if you are an intern!). Some of them get job offers just by doing an internship and whatnot. They don't put a major focus on SAT scores. I spoke to an honors student, I think the honors program is fine - the best part is you get a $12,000 scholarship.

This is true, Emerson does look for really unique people for their school. The students I spoke with talked about LA and how there's a bit of an Emerson "mafia" over there. It sounds really cool and you really do make some serious connections which is definitely important. Does anyone know the requirements for the honors program? (I'm mosty likely not qualified, I'd just like to know).

i don't know too much. i just know the first person who posted asked if it was comparable to NYU and i thought coincidence... I'm got in ED and am going to NYU and also got in Emerson EA. wicked cool school though.

I was accepted to Emerson last year, but did not go because I wasnt sure since I hadn't visited. I am thinking of re-submitting my app for next year (i took a year off), and perhaps going there. My only concern is the location, I've never been to Boston, and while I hear great things, I am a NYC girl and I am a singer, so I need to be around the music industry, however, I hear the connections in Emerson are amazing, and I can take classes at Berkleee, so it's really not so bad. We'll see what happens.

Boston is a really good city, I think it's easier to get used to than New York for people that are not used to cities of the type. It's so good for walking and is filled with college students. If I go to Emerson, I will probably take some electives at Berklee, too. And i'm sure you could plan weekend trips to NYC sometimes, i've heard there's some cheap city to city transport buses.

Honours Program: you must write an additional essay and submit a graded paper from your junior or senior year. I believe most people will have an SAT score of 1300 and up, i've heard of someone with a lower score. Aside from that, they'll be looking at your EC's and your grades (the average freshman has a 3.5 I think, so 3.5 + gpa).

my stats = 3.3 gpa uw
1230 SAT
26 ACT
taking AP eng and AP calc this year
already took AP Psych
EC's= Dance (tap/jap/ballet) for 13 years
I teach 3 dance classes
yearbook editor

that's the basics.

and to people debating Boston, I live in Massachusetts and go into the city all the time. It's the most amazing city ever. I love New York more and that's why I'm going there... but Boston is incredible. Everytime I go into the city I wonder if I'm making the right choice placing myself in the other. I'm definitely torn between the two. It's a good place to be.

and for cheap transportation to NYC, you can take a bus from China Town for $10

The China Bus is quite possibly God's gift to man. I have friends who want to go to college in Boston and NYC and we plan to make it our main mode of transportation when seeing each other.
