Emo-type music

Punkiie, I know right?!?!? :)

I think you don't understand the definition of "metal". Tool is not metal.

=] Right! -.- Tool tool? What the hell do you mean by tool? [roll eyes] I have no time arguing with people. x.x;

is that a joke? its not metal like Slayer or Iron Maiden but you listen to Undertow and its undoubtedly metal. I prefer to label them as progressive but they do have a ton of similarities to metal music...just technically superior in all ways.

punkiie, its a band. Look them up, you understand their music, you will stop listening to emo.

Ha ha firewalker! =]

I listen to emo, but I also listen to much better bands ( I'm the first one to admit that emo music isn't good, but its extremely catchy, and thats what I like)

I listen to stuff like:
iron maiden
yngwie malmsteen
apocalyptica
demons and wizards
iced earth
mago de oz
plus tons of electronic music hehe ;)

at least megaman is honest with himself!

Heh, like I'm not honest to myself that emo is not bad. -.-; What the hell....

You've GOT to be kidding me. Tool is MUCH MORE mellow than bands I consider metal. I'm assuming you've listened to 10,000 Days right? Take "Vicarious" for example...its more rock than metal, IMO. Tool has good riffs and musicality but I wouldn't compare it to the likes of Bal-Sagoth, Ensiferum, Kreator, Exodus, etc.

I'd compare Tool to Soundgarden, APC, etc.

The only similarity to metal Tool has would be to doom/sludge.

no way! APC is nothing compared to Tool. Tool is just as hard as any metal band. The concert that I went to a few weeks ago reached 140 decibels. They are intense...just because they are also melodic doesnt mean they arent metal, just that theyre better.

Theyre intense? Because they play loud? Hell, I'd consider many screamo bands to be metal with that logic. But it's not valid. Have you listened to the dual guitar parts of Li and Totman (Dragonforce)? They devastate Jones' work. Tool's guitars sound much like a condensed version of motorheads', if anything.

I'm going to conclude that Tool is more of a hybrid of prog rock/hard rock than metal.

Adam Jones is the weakest member of Tool, and that is saying something because his experimentation is insane.

The heart of Tool will always be Danny Carey.

And I agree on that firewalker in terms of them being a hybrid...but man others would fiercely disagree that they arent metal. its hard to classify them

i don't really care whether tool is better than APC or your mom or whatever you want to compare it to. tool has some good songs that are worth listening to, end of story.
and i agree with megaman, some emo songs are catchy--it's because they're pop! but quality music that you can honestly call "beautiful" comes from people like malmsteen, vai, etc

I like how the emo thread has turned into an argument about Tool's classification.

Nothing is wrong with listening to many genres. With me, I'm into just about everything, straylight run, backsteet boys, Radiohead, A Fire Inside, Jesus Christ Superstar, Korn, nine inch nails (my favorite), blink 182, eminem, everclear, Stephen Lynch, gorillaz and much more. But country sucks.

Hopefully, listening to lots of popular music will be helpful for triva games.
