Emory Dorm Selection

Does anyone know which dorms are coed by hall, coed by floor, and single-sex floors?

Nevermind, i found a link with good information

http://www.emory.edu/HOUSING/UNDERGRAD/coed.html

(if anyone wants it)

Emory is not nice to incoming freshman, as far as housing selection goes. We get absolutely no choice, besides giving a few useless preferences. I just filled it out today, I'm pretty excited.

i pretty sure though that the application that you filled out (and me too!) is somewhat premliminary. the full application is not available until april first so hopefully we will get more choice. i'm looking at either one of the dorms in the complex or alabama. how about you?

if i could get a choice i would choose mctyeire
but dobbs and alabama i would also like

A buddy of mine down there recommended Longstreet, Dobbs, and McTyeire. He thought they had the best locations and best looking girls/ social atmosphere in general. I'd be happy with a double in one of those. Why are you looking at the Complex and Alabama?

i like alabama because it has the biggest rooms on campus. i stayed in the dorms in the complex a few years ago and like the location plus the three buildings are next to each other which means that alot of people will live there so i won't have to go far to hang out.

No fair if you guys get a choice! ;-) I got Complex as a freshman and loved it, but I'm sure you'll equally love wherever you end up, especially because of Songfest, which pits freshman dorms against each other in a mass song/dance contest that was definitely one of the highlights for the year. That generates a lot of pride.
Plus each dorm has it's pluses and minuses. For example, rooms in Dobbs are the smallest, but it's smack dab in the middle of campus and is probably the most social dorm. Turman is the farthest away, but it was just renovated this year.
Bottom line, your housing assignment will not make or break your year. You'll be a happy camper in any building. :-)

Alabama and Dobbs are really central. The Complex is a little further away, but its still close to "central" campus a.ka. Duc/Cox.

McTyerire and the ones surrounding it are pretty good location.

Turman, although it has singles and is renovated, is MUCH farther then I thought it would be. Its FAR. Youd have to take the shuttle which would be annoying.

Although, I was surpised by how fast the shuttle went around and how many shuttles there are.

I just went to Emory on Tuesday and im so excited. Its SUCH a great school.

Also, do they send us the housing apps? I havent done anything with housing so i was wondering where to fill an app out or do i wait till the 1st??

i don't think they send applications out. i started mine online at myhousing.emory.edu this just gets your preferences until you are able to fill out the rest after the 31st of march.

you don't get a choice in where you live. complex is a nicer dorm, but it's farther away from places like dooley's and frat row. alabama makes me jealous because it's so nice. i live and longstreet, and i absolutely love it. but like Llyndyn said, housing won't make or break your year, so whatever you get will be fine! :)

McTyeire is the shiz, not gonna lie. I live in room 112 right now and it pretty much rocks. It's the extremely central and has the biggest rooms outside of Alabama. I lived in Dobbs for five weeks and hated it. Maybe you'll like it, but I was in the all girls pit and it just wasn't for me. Longstreet is horrid: it smells and the rooms aren't nice. Complex has great rooms and a great atmosphere. Don't worry about housing too much though. If you haven't already contacted a potential roommate through LearnLink, I'd do it now! It's the best way to make sure that you don't end up with someone you can't stand.

aww longstreet isn't thaaat bad. granted, it does smell extremely badly, and it reminds me of being in a jail cell, but all you have to do is put lots of posters and stuff on the wall
