Dorms...

So what dorms are the best at Emory? Which dorms hang out the most? nicest rooms? basketball court and exercise stuff nearby? any other important information we should know about dorms?

If any current students could talk about their freshman experiences and answer those questions it'd be much appreciated.

btw, how far are we supposed to be on our housing application at this point? I haven't done anything.

I've already turned mine in.

Cassiodorus,

When and where did you get your housing application?

then sent intsturctions in the mail but everything is done online.

thanks ijm8710

ALABAMA: Beautiful building, very centrally located (DUC, quad, gym Cox Hall, library), biggest rooms of all freshman dorms but not as social as some others on account of the size.

COMPLEX: (Hopkins, Smith, Thomas) Near the library, B School, Swartz. Nothing fabulous about the building; decent size rooms. There is an exercise room w / weights. People seemed to like it. A lot of international students lived there this year.

DOBBS: smallest rooms on campus--you don't have a choice but to bunk your beds. Beautiful building, very centrally located (DUC, quad, Cox, gym). A really social hall on account of the small size of the rooms.

HARRIS: Pretty building. Near the library and the B School. Not too many people lived there this year so I don't know much about it.

LONGSTREET: Huge building, houses a lot of people. Rooms are decent, but for some reason L street always smells. Near the DUC and gym. Very social hall. There is a sand volleyball court and a barbecue grill in the Longstreet-Means-Trimble courtyard.

McTYEIRE: Pretty building, bigger rooms, very centrally located (DUC, gym, Frat row, etc) very social.

MEANS: Decent size rooms. Near the DUC and Dooley's. Has a bbcue grill and a sand volleyball court in courtyard.

TRIMBLE: Pretty building. Centrally located (DUC, gym, Dooley's, Frat row). Only 2 floors so very tight and social hall. Big rooms.

TURMAN: Far walk / short shuttle ride away from everything. Has there own deli and BB courts. Very social halls--"Turman Tuesdays"

If I had to rank the dorms my ranking would be: Alabama, McTyeire, Trimble, Dobbs, Longstreet, Complex, Means, Harris, and Turman (best---->)

I heard that getting a room in Alabama was really hard. I heard that only Scholars get rooms there.

do freshmen get to room in trimble or mctyeire?

do freshmen get to choose which building they want to be in? i think i missed that on the app

im pretty sure no the only say u get is that survey thing about preferecnes like social life, habits and stuff and u are allow\ed to choose the actual roomate if both consent

i agree with everything emory said.
except my order would be: mctyeire, alabama, dobbs, longstreet, harris, turman, trimble, complex, means

and mctyeire houses japs, alabama scholars, longstreet sluts, harris elite (so many super singles), turman minorities, complex druggies, dobbs drinkers. those are my stereotypes.

Cookiemonster, are you serious? You honestly think that Dobbs would go before Complex or Harris? The rooms at Dobbs are so small.

complex rooms are pretty small too. and dobbs has a much better location. i dont mind small rooms. and i dont like harris because...well actually, come to think of it, freshmen cant live in harris anymore....but in any event, i would still pick dobbs over harris bc of location. sadly i am living in harris next year :'(

How are the floors divided in Dobbs, Longstreet, McTyeire, Means, Trimble, Complex, Harris, and Turman (single sex floors, coed by floor, or coed by room)?

i liked complex a lot this year...i'd say that if you're a scholar and can't get a room in alabama, get a room in complex...a whole lot of scholars live here. Also, it really helps to be next to the library, especially during finals time

i live in dobbs this year and although the rooms are tiny, i absolutely love it here. the size of rooms really isn't that big of a deal, you get used too it. and also dobbs is (i think) the biggest dorm=most residents. dobbs is known for being social, but from what ive noticed, alabama, mctyeire, and trimble are also all pretty social. dobbs definitely has the best location, though, which is a huge plus.

dobbs, mctyeire, and trimble are all co-ed floors by rooms, alabama is 2 floors-one all guys, one all girls.

Hey, falloutgirl, what's your major? just curious

so far im majoring in cultural anthropology..but that could change, or maybe ill double major in psychology...not quite sure

I was just asking because when I went to the Essence of Emory Weekend, my host was from Chicago. She also lived in Dobbs. So, I thought that maybe you were my host. That would have been so cool.

One more question: How do I select my residence hall on the Emory Housing Application?

do you remember what floor your host lived on?
sorry im not sure how to fill the forms out..we got to pick which hall we lived in when we signed up for dorms
