Emory Frat Reps & Rankings (Greek Life)

Collegeacb.com had helpful information on sororities, but not on frats. Can upperclassmen at Emory provide insider info for freshmen thinking about pledging?

Best Fraternity Ranking
Ex) KA, SAE, Phi Delt, etc.

The frats at Emory are largely split into 2 groups, a bottom and a top.
There isnt a clear top frat, but rather 5 that are all pretty good, and are suited to different groups of people. The same is true for the bottom half, with no direct rankings, just certain personas.
TOP:
AEPi: a very jewish frat that is very sought after by mostly Northeasterners. Probably most competitive rush process for jews/northeasterners. Overall cool guys, but tend only to mix with jewish girls, and throw ok parties

Sig Chi: proverbial top house, but not entirely accurate. overall most competitive rush process, pulling people that have a more southern vibe. huge ******bag (were the bast) factor, that turns alot of people off. mix mostly with tri delt, which is a sorority that was once the best but has fallen some in recent years. 2nd best party’s

Sig Nu: Huge athletic frat, almost all guys play a sport of some kind. definitely a meathead vibe, and are generally *******s. have a random collection following of girls, and throw good small parties, but not the best big ragers.

Beta (theta Pi): huge conglomerate, newest house on campus and biggest by size. Very varied, with brothers that come from alot of different backgrounds, some cooler than others. Seemingly attatched to theta at the hip, but throw the biggest ragers, attracting most campus girls. however, nights that are not ragers are much quieter on average.

SAE: Very southern (In a brooks brothers and khaki pants kind of way), smallish chapter that attracts a sort of “we are the 1%” niche market. Usually mix with ADPi, but seem to bring in alot of athletic girls too. Very soccer heavy, and also has a sort of strange international student following.

—BOTTOM—
ZBT: jewish, top of the bottom, pretty good with girls
Phi Delt: stoners, self obsessed, terrible with girls
KA: southern in a hick kind of way, also fairly sure they “rage super hard”
Pike: worst of the worst
Kappa Sig: nice guys, with tendancy to take hipsters and “squirrel baits”, terrible house
Sig Ep: Not even really a frat, not on the row and rarely takes more than a few pledges

–ATO: could fall anywhere, just very smart, very involved guys, who are kind of pussies. bring many girls to the house, but dont get many themselves.

Thanxx goldy92, very informative indeed.

What about sororities? Can Emory upperclassmen provide insider info on this? ^^

Are Emory fraternities exclusive as in selective or are there some fraternities that practically give bids to all?

I don’t necessarily agree with that ranking.
I would say top is (in no particular order)
Sig Chi, Sig Nu, SAE

Middle is
ZBT, ATO, KA, AEPI, Beta

Bottom is:
KapSig, Phi Delt, SigEp

This is the generally accepted standard, but I think Sig nu is ******y, and never go there and love ZBT and ATO. It really depends on each pledge class

Only someone from AEPi would actually put them in the top. I would definitely put ATO, ZBT, and KA above them. Sig Chi and Sig Nu are often considered in the top because they are probably the most stereotypical of the fraternities but have a lot of weird/creepy guys. Many girls I talk to with the exception of tri-delts (go figure) have an overall negative attitude towards the Sigs.
My ranking would be:
Top: SAE, ATO, ZBT, Sig Chi
Middle: KA, Beta, Sig Nu, AEPi
Bottom: KapSig, SigEp, Phi Delt

how is fall rush? specifically for transfers? Im from an SEC school so I know a lot about greek life.

Fall rush operates on a much smaller scale than spring rush and most of the people that participate in fall rush seem to generally know which fraternity they are pulling for. Fall rush is also probably more competitive because the pledge classes will be small and potential pledges are expected to know a good amount of brothers as they are sophomores and up. This doesn’t mean that it is impossible for a transfer to get in during the fall, but you’ll just have to make a larger effort to get to know more brothers before the process begins

Any ranking for Emory sororities?

I’m not 100% sure, but from what i heard TriDelt and Theta are top. SDT is bottom.

I don’t go to Emory. I am transferring in the fall.

For fraternities, I think the “two tier” approach is generally close to the current mark. Individual descriptions will vary with the describers.
It’s also true that fraternities can rise and fall.

Everyone you’ll talk to will have different rankings and opinions, the best way is just to meet the people and see for yourself. I myself am not in a frat but I have a lot of friends who are and I’ve been to most of the parties. If you need to use college confidential to help you pick a fraternity, then you might want to re-evaluate if greek life is right for you. That being said here’s my take on it:

Tier 1:
Sig Nu- Athletic, fratty guys that rub some people the wrong way. Recently got back on campus and usually throws good parties.
Sig Chi- Kinda full of themselves but usually considered top of the row. Lots of soccer players.
Beta- Heavy drug frat with a very nice house. Very diverse but tends to take a lot of random goobers.
Aepi- Long island jews. Can be arrogant. Throws decent parties.

Tier 2:
Sae- Southern gentlemen with a pretty awesome pool. Good with girls and have a nice house.
Phi delt- Chill guys that throw good parties. They’ve gotten large pledge classes the last couple years. Lots of longboarders.
Ato- Very involved, high gpa. Has gotten bad press recently for some photos going around of brothers taking body shots off each other.

Tier 3:
KA- Southern, small fraternity. Heavy drinkers, decent parties.
Zbt- Nice but nerdy jewish guys. Improved last couple years.
Kappa sig- Terrible house, terrible with girls. Considered a less cool ato.
Pike- Creepy but nice guys. Bad with girls. At least they’re getting their house back.
Sig ep- Pretty sure there are less than 10 people in it. Mostly Indians in the business school who want to put a frat on their resume.

As far as sororities go:
Tier 1: Tri Delt, Theta, Kappa, Adpi
Tier 2: Gamma Phi, DphiE, SDT

A fraternity should be chosen based on where you feel most comfortable. The best way is to give every fraternity a chance regardless of what you have heard. In my opinion though, I would identify the fraternities in different categories rather than tiers.

Preppy Fraternities:
Sigma Chi-Decent sized house who draw most of their members from soccer and the swimming team. They dress really well and are good with girls.
SAE- Similar to Sigma Chi but a level up in terms of preppy. They also have a swimming pool.
KA-The most southern out of all the fraternities on campus. It’s also one of the smallest but has a solid group of guys. However, it is not known to be very diverse.

Jewish Fraternities:
AEPi-A very large fraternity that is populated mostly by long island jews. They are however in the process of moving this year.
ZBT-Not as Jewish as AEPi, nice group of guys.

Big Fraternities:
Beta- One of the largest fraternities on campus, parties really hard and is really diverse.
Phi Delt- Kinda of the leftovers who wanted to be in a fraternity that could not fit in anywhere else.

Athletic Fraternity:
Sigma Nu- Has a large emphasis on the athletic ability of its members. They party really hard.

Goal Orientated Fraternities:
ATO- They really are involved in campus and are focused on their futures.

Everyone else:
Pike- Just got back on campus and gave bids to everyone this past year, nothing special about them.
Kappa Sig- Live in a really ancient house and they dont have anything really going for them.
Sig Ep- They have a lot of trouble recruiting because it is like they do not exist in campus affairs. Most guys would not be considered the stereotypical fraternity man.

Categories are certainly one way to do it, but the tier system doesn’t make sense unless the criteria are established. It’s completely subjective to say which fraternities are “better” than others, but you can say which fraternities are better in different ways. Here’s how I’d rank the fraternities in terms of parties they throw:

Tier 1:
Beta- Throws huge parties with tons of girls and tons of blow. Think snow party.
Sigma Nu- Throws absolute ragers, especially since they’re back on campus.
Phi Delt- Throws an epic jungle and halloween party. Always packed with tons of hype
SAE- Throws good parties such as reggae and a pool party. Good ratio.

Tier 2:
Aepi- Throws exclusive parties. Normally crowded.
KA- For a small house, they hold their own
Sig Chi- Not known for partying. Sticks largely to mixers/date parties
Ato- For a goal oriented fraternity, they hold their own. Heaven/hell and beach party are always popular

Tier 3:
Zbt- Decent parties, normally not a great ratio.
Kappa sig- They try.
Pike- Few, if any girls
Sig ep- Non-existant

Obviously this is not the only way to evaluate a fraternity. Other factors such as girls, brotherhood, campus rep, etc also change the way a fraternity is viewed. Go where you feel most comfortable, and not by stereotypes. A lot of fraternities get a bad rap, but there are a lot of fraternities that are on the rise and have vastly improved over the last couple years (think zbt, phi delt, etc).

This thread is bad and you guys should feel bad. Most of this information is based on false, outdated stereotypes. College confidential is a website used primarily by asians and high school applicants’ mothers. If you are using this to evaluate fraternities, I’m embarrassed for you.

“Zbt: Pretty good with girls”. That should tell you all you need to know about the legitimacy of this thread.

this thread gave me cancer

Yea, this thread is a joke. That’s why I didn’t post in it.
