Emory or Tufts

Hey guys, I want to apply early and am deciding between Tufts and Emory.

I want to study genetics/biology and am thinking of going to med school after undergrad.
My ACT score is a 33 and cost is not a factor.

The criteria i am focusing on not in any particular order is:

-quality of education/professors
-surrounding city/social scene
-research opportunities
-weather
-student body (attractiveness, friendliness)

Which do you think is better? Thanks

I would go with Emory… But why not apply to both?

^Well if the OP wants to apply early they can’t apply to both.

My kid went to Tufts. Liked the students and most of the professors hated the administration. (Which dh and I maintain is about par for the course with the notable exception of Cal Tech when he attended - no idea what they are like now.) I like Boston weather because I enjoy a good snow storm, but if you don’t like winter, Atlanta will certainly beat out Tufts. I think there are good research opportunities in both schools.

One thing about Tufts, (which I like), is that they take the idea of active citizenship pretty seriously. Even students who aren’t in IR often spend summers doing volunteer work abroad. There are many opportunities to get involved and I’d say Tufts students in general, are a little more apt than average to care about policy issues and to stay up late talking about them.

I don’t know Emory, though I’ve been to Atlanta a couple of times. It’s a nice city, but does not have the same kind of history as Boston does. Mind you if you are busy at Tufts, you may not get into Boston that often - although it’s very easy to get there on public transport.
